Ekitidiot

you know what happened, that southampton defender was annoying him and pushing him of the ball so he reacted

still stupid though, embarassing even

hes been our best striker, better than salah and gakpo

The most annoying thing is that he has adapted to the physicality and being roughed up REALLY well, he was pushed from pillar to post against Newcastle and didn't bat an eyelid, then he did that last night.

The reason we are so annoyed is because he's been our best attacking player and is scoring a lot. We didn't need him to highlight his name, his football was doing that just fine. I don't think Isak is anywhere near as sharp as him, or as useful off the ball at the moment, or in general. It could easily cost us points.

I think it's worse than Darwin, because Darwin wasnt being a self aggrandizing cunt, he just lost his head.

It'll be a massive game for wirtz.
God help us!

James Bond title incoming.

Slot admonishing Ekigol and giving Chiesa praise at the same time:

"Then I told him that if you score in a Champions League final in the 87th minute after beating three players and hitting it in the top corner I can maybe understand you say: 'It's all about me'.

"But I'm old fashioned, I'm 47, I'm old, and I haven't played at this level but I did score a few goals, and if I scored a goal like this I would have turned around and walked up to Federico Chiesa and say: 'This goal is all about you, this is not about me'.

"So, yeah, needless, not smart, you call it stupid and I call it stupid."

Arne has a way with words doesn't he? So simple and direct and yet.... If Arne Slot said this about me I wouldn't speak a word for the next two weeks. Delete all my socials and just turn up for training two hours early every day.

It's not a complete quote.

His statement deliberately acknowledged how he was capable of the same stupidity; that he was stupid to get sent off against everton.

Regardless, the part of the quote that was really cutting was that he made it all about himself. I think Arne will have more patience for being a stupid kid, but not recognizing Chiesa and pointing to his name was the bigger sin, even if he was not already on a yellow.

I haven't read the whole thread so apols if this is quiffing, but could the whole daft business have been at least partly a reaction to the arrival of Isak - "Hey, I arrived as well and I can play a bit too"? Not an excuse, but maybe a partial explanation?

He’s been ok two mins, been ok but doing that after a tap in against a side 40 places below was stupid and arrogant. Also, the way he was arrogant to Frimpong and not immediatly going to Chiesa made him a stand out knob. Hope he will learn from it but Slot or Virgil won’t persist with that kind attitude long term.

Here is my view on thing...This may well turn out good for us and Chiesa if he is used against Palace fo instead of Gakpo on the left, look for more assists from him than than Gakpo

Having our in form striker out of the team for trying to show he's the main man (against a 2nd stream championship team) is not a good thing.

Even if it can prove that Chiesa should be on that starting 11 more often than some one like Cody Gakpo?

Why would Ekitike out mean that Chiesa gets a start?
Does not mean that he will get a start, but he could get a start depending on if (i) if Isak is Fit (ii) IF Gakpo if in which case we can either start Chiesa on the left or up front

Got it. Not so much a fan of him playing as our nine though. He seems so much better as a LW/10.

Knowing Slot, he'll probably use this as a reason not to start Chiesa, since he now needs him as a back up in case Isak breaks.

Gakpo starts against Palace. 100%

Yep I said as much earlier and the fact Isak scored in the first half.

Disagree about LW. I doubt he has the pace for that now.

He’s young, arrogant, and stupid, but hopefully not a dickhead that doesn’t learn from his mistakes. As softly spoken as Slot is, I imagine he can be a very intimidating figure to the players when he wants to be.
Lots of top strikers have a screw loose in their head so not that worried. If he repeats it, then we should all be worried.

Colleagues at his previous club have had some nice things to say about him. I'm hopeful this will turn out to have been a one-off.

At 23, I'm sure we all had quite a few dumb things to say and do. When you're older, it's easy to forget people grow through (many) mistakes. Go easy lads. With social media to pile on, it's too much focus for a small daft error.

I can tell you about the time, I got sent off by a ref, as I was coming on as a super sub in a quarter final... (I was 22)...

Thank heavens for no camera phones back then.

Was always so. No way Cheesie gets to play 2 x 90 mins (or whatever) in 5 days whilst Gakpo kicks his heels for 2 games.

I know he's got enough money, but I can't help but feel a tiny bit sorry for the dumb sod. He's going to be the Kop's new pet.

Just read that he's being fined 2 weeks wages.

Slot during press conference, on Ekitike::

Disciplined means a fine, which he didn't get. I spoke to him. He said sorry straight away to his team-mates, he is young and players of all ages make mistakes and you are allowed at this club to make a mistake without getting fined. A fantastic human being, if you asked staff top 3 or warmest and polite, he would be in there, so he can make a mistake. It wasn't smart, it didn't hurt us. It might hurt a bit more tomorrow but Chiesa is showing himself and a chance for him to play tomorrow off the bench."
