Emile Heskey: The Power house

I really like Emile Heskey. He seems like a decent guy and his girlfriend is friggin lovely, but HOLY BALLS, that's genius !

I see a movement about to start.

Hilarious.

A fair few of my mates have met him during his Leicester years and also in recent years as he's still about Leicester fairly frequently.

Apparently,he is indeed a top bloke in person.

Crazy to think he was once our record signing though!

Indeed. I would defend him as a player for us too though actually.

His last couple of seasons were pretty dire granted but he was excellent in the Treble season and certainly had his moments in other years.

Should we have expected more from a record signing? Well yes, we should have done but we've made a lot LOT worse signings than him. And we did win a fair few trophies with him in the side

Heskey WAS a monster a couple of seasons. Two anyway...then he became more of a joke sadly.

[/quote] didn't him & owen score 20ish goals each in the same season?

Yes. In 2000/01 Owen got 24 and Heskey got 22

In terms of goals/game ratio I think Heskey's record is almost exactly the same as Dirk Kuyt's.

As per wikipedia:

Dirk - 49 in 181 (0.27 per game)
Emile - 39 in 160 (0.24 per game)

Close enough ... but you'll struggle to find many people who will think of Emile as fondly as they do of Dirk.

Is that league games and goals? Try all competitions and the ratios are even closer. You are correct mind. Kuyt is more popular.

We certainly have, one of them is our current record signing, its impossible to dislike Heskey on a personal level, he was a little out of his depth at Liverpool but he always gave an honest shift and did contribute more than some people would have you believe. Plus its not his fault Ged was so mental he played him on the left wing

Carroll may well turn out to be more successful than Heskey but you are right on other points.

It could be considered that Heskey was out of his depth but he could point to what he has achieved. Look at our other big money signings and I reckon Heskey won more trophies with Liverpool than any of them. I'd imagine he would consider his time at Liverpool as a success overall and justifiably so in my opinion

The problem with Heskey is that he started brilliantly and then tailed off badly, whereas Dirk has been a lot more reliable in terms of his goal return.

The problem with Heskey was the lack of heart. He just slumped his shoulders and started feeling his back like he was a bloody cripple when he was having a tough game. That made me want to beat him with an iron bar and give him something to gurn about.

Indeed. He simply didn't have the personality to play the position. Having said that, I do think he was turned into Michael's bitch somewhat. Granted, that was partly due to his shy, submissive nature, but it would've been interesting to see if another manager might have capitalized better on his brilliant first season.

The problem with Heskey was that every now and then, rarely i grant you but, every now and then he would absolutely monster a defender out of the way and score....

You just wish he did it every week...

he didnt...

He also utterly lacked confidence when one on one with the goaly.

That video is great.

Shame on you all for turning this into a reasoned discussion.

I'm sorry. I really need to lighten up, don't I?
