What happened with Agger anyway, is he injured?
Yep, minor injury. Didnt want to risk him.
Did they say what it was? Hopefully it's just a bruised knee from the City game, I hope it's not a strain or anything.
No, just that it was a minor injury and that they wanted to be careful. Wasnt training on friday either.
Oh well, best to be cautious with him and we didn't concede, so..... It's good for Coates to get another game under his belt, especially after the Oldham game where he looked shaky.

Cause it's otherwise a baffling decision to leave him out.
Ah... Kenny doesn't seem to fancy him much though.

The issue for me is that we had good movement in the side last season with Maxi & Meireles. Losing the latter was a big blow in that sense, we're very static now as a side, so to lose two players that like to show good movement off the ball, it's been disastrous.

Downing is our Pires. Without the goals...and without the "movement" and without the "no-look pass".

It's not though.

There was nothing wrong with Modo's initial post. All he was saying was that Enrique, good player that he is, hasn't been pulling up trees in the crossing department. Which is true.

So why is everyone getting on his case?

So not content with people criticising the obvious shambles of yesterday, someone decides to distract us.

By moaning about one of the players who has been a success this season. Way to fucking go eh.

Like someone already said, Enrique is not high up the priority list of problems. Therefore people are suggesting it's a not of stupid negativity.

You don't agree, that's fine.

Quite. He's been great defensively (though he does have issues cutting out crosses) but when he gets in the final third he can be frustrating with his decision making, especially late on in games where a few times he's opted to shoot and usually ends up just ballooning it. He's been a quality buy so far but there are areas he can improve. I know he's the least of our worries and that's why people have got their backs up, but it's a fair point. That said, the onus has been on him to produce more because our wide play has been so fucking shit, ditto Glen Johnson aswell.

It's a discussion point and there is no question that had the thread have been started by someone other than Modo it would've been treated as such.

He offered the idea of putting Aurelio in to improve our delivery on that flank and not in place of Enrique given that he's good. So it wasn't a thread geared towards moaning.

So it's a thread about Downing, then. And the proposal is that we replace Downing with Aurelio in midfield. Is it any wonder no one is taking it seriously?

I think some people feel critisism is more warrented for the attackers.
I don't have a problem with enrique at all except when he has a pop at goal late in matches when there far better options available to him.

There used to be an old philosophy at the club that if there was a player better than what we had then we would go for him. Always striving to improve. I understand that people think we have more pressing issues, because we do, but there are things that need ironing out with others. It's a fair enough point, I don't agree with the proposed solution but someone does need to work on his attacking play with him and he will maybe become even better than he already is.

Fair do's.
If I was in that team I'd have a pop at goal late on, better having a go yourself than letting someone else miss.
that's not very 'head up' though is it. I think you have to play the pencentages, i.e. what is more likely to bring a goal, a 25 yard thunderbolt or a ball to the far past when tere are several team mates queuing up in the box? it's only a small critisism though as enrique as been the signing of the season.

Ha, so call it a dumb thread rather than a negative one.

I would also like to see Enrique cut out the rather hopeful punts into the box. I don't really have much to contribute after that and I don't particularly want to see Aurelio in the side either.

Have Aurelio play infront of Enrique and we'll get these type of crosses:

FABIO AURELIO - UNSUNG HERO
It's something i'd like to see actually. Aurelio's a classy player, just a shame that he's injured so much.

Some people think too much. Sunny, Rafa, Woland, Mark Spoin and anyone else that have pointed out we are extremely lucky to have Enrique have it nailed.
Sometimes I think we should have some sort of test before people are allowed to post on here.

He should play!

Im probably the first person here who mentioned Enrique as our solution for the LB spot. Some wanted us to play Glenjo there with Robinson as back up.
Like I said he has one flaw I belive it could be remidied by playing a great crosser like Aurelio in front of him, thats it.

I never called it a negative one. I just think that picking on Enrique right now is a non-starter. He's been one of the few players to enhance his reputation this season.

Had this thread been entitled 'Downing is missing something', it would perhaps have been more apt, but as you say, the suggestion of swapping him out for an aging, fundamentally broken left back is laughable.

If that is really a serious suggestion and has any logic whatsoever (it hasn't) people must think we are much more fucked than we actually are, Modo I don't want to seem a twat , as you come across as a really nice lad, but Aurelio is a perma crock, he has had his chance and had his day. The opposition are not going to stand back and give him time and space for him to ping in blisteringly accurate crosses (I have not seen that many of them to be honest) he has no pace and is never match fit. I am hugely disappointed with Downing to the point I am starting to hate him, but between a shit Downing and Aurelio there is no contest.
Downing has let Enrique down badly but putting Aurelio in front of him would be a right slap in his face.
