Post Match EPL Arsenal (A) 0-0 January 8th 20:00

Based on recent performances, it seemed a given. The issue now becomes if this performance is a rarity this season or a corner turned

I'm not expecting it to be.
I think the way we played, esp. in that 2nd half, and the fact we didn't concede a goal in the 112th minute, will have done their confidence more good than the previous 8-9 games we've not lost.

It seemed that way in the second half when anyone just switching on, and who hadn't seen the PL table, would have thought we were the league leaders. Our control was insanely good, esp. when you look at who we were playing and where.

Humble pie because we drew.

You've gone off the deep end
Humble pie because he was adamant we’d get slaughtered. I didn’t think we would and in fact we exceeded my expectations for this game.

In the context of our season and all the pre game chat that was a sensationally brave display by the players esp Dom, Gravy, Macca and Wirtz in the middle.

Not to mention the fucking weather. The football at times was magical and we rattled them in their own back yard.

Slot may not be the answer and he may not survive or turn it around to the point where we win trophies but for this game it absolutely is humble pie.

Eat up motherfuckers!

Tonight you could see a good partnership between Bradley and Frimpong, with them each dropping in at right back as and when the other one went. Gomez just wouldn't bring that. But yeah, we need to invest.

Realistically this window we need a winger, a CB, a RB and maybe a striker

It's like it's the summer again

Lego head is funny.

Was half wondering this myself throughout the game - whether I would want to bring on a sub to risk us losing the control of the second half.

Would have brought a Chiesa on for Gakpo towards the end to just give the option and stop Arsenal thinking they could charge forward against tired legs like they did at the end to threaten and rob it last minute.
Agree, I would have brought on him or Rio on too but I can absolutely understand why he didn’t. It’s not baffling at all.

1) based on recent form and performances of both sides, a tonking seemed highly likely. Especially with our injuries
2) best midfield performance of the season, no complaints
3) amazing that we were the only team who played in the rain today.
4) it's not humble pie because we managed to put our a competent performance. Zero shots on target.

I'd be more positive about this result if the fraud hadn't parked the bus at home against Sunderland, dropped silly points against Leeds twice, Nottingham Forest, Fulham et al.

Until he shows he can break down a low block consistently - something he's admitted he basically can't do - then I'm not gonna crow about our unbeaten run or claim we've turned a corner.

We should be walking away this league. Not Stoke 2.0 and that Spanish lego-headed David Brent

I'd rather we wait until we've sorted out a new manager to make sure they're part of the decision process

Pfft I'm not eating any humble pie based on that performance.
Ha ffs. If we got raped but somehow scraped a 0/0 that’s be fine.

Are you seriously saying you weren’t impressed with that display esp the second half?

Arguably with all the pre game context it was our best display of the season without our three main attackers.

You should just say, aye humble pie for this game, I didn’t expect that but I still hate Slot and want him gone.

Spreadsheet squad doesn't consider a managers needs or opinions. They get what they're given and they need to play the kids

Slot would rather not play the kids in the league

I think it’s the norm for big games which sadly are only City, Villa and whoever we get in the CL.

This set up won’t beat 17 of the teams which is what Slot needs to figure out for next season if he is here.

If there's no striker you drive in to the box when wirtz, szob or Frimpong has the ball. He didn't. He didn't link up with anyone in an attacking sense.

If the only praise we can give gakpo today is that he fell over in possession, then surely chiesa or Rio could have done that?
The way I mark a player is how many times I say "fuck off Gakpo" etc. during a match. Gakpo hit double figures - as much as the rest of the team put together.

You won’t win without getting the ball between the sticks.

No it wasn’t. The ball was gone and wasn’t under control. The move was over by the time there was contact.
Of course but it’s not like we never laid a glove on them. We created the opportunities to the target and just didn’t. Would be a big concern if we had no chances.

Wirtz could have gotten to the ball if he wasn’t body checked imo.

It was a good performance in the context of this season and the shit we found ourselves in. As far as where the team is at relative to arsenal in the last decade, it's hard to get excited.

If you thought we were going to get mullered and instead we got a decent point away, just take it as a success.

I think if we have ekitike maybe we steal that game. The fact that I expect absolutely nothing from gakpo, a more senior player at the peak of his abilities, is a problem.

Perfectly put

I also noticed that when Frimpong got back then Szobo would frequently go help out, and Bradley often then dropped in as a 3rd CB. We hardly ever looked like conceding tonight.

I think starting either of them would have been a strange gamble and would have meant our highest available goal scorer and creater was on the bench.

I didn't think we'd get battered. Arsenal aren't that type of side. I just thought they'd grind out a boring 2-0 from a couple of corners and we'd be toothless. Still not impressed, but it was better than I was expecting.

I didn't watch the game, mind. It was nice.

Yepp I said to my son we were playing with 3 RBs at times

Ok fair enough I see you won’t see how that display isn’t humble vs getting humiliated.

We created heaps of opportunities but our shooting boots in shit weather let us down.
