Post Match EPL Arsenal (A) 0-0 January 8th 20:00

I think starting either of them would have been a strange gamble and would have meant our highest available goal scorer and creater was on the bench.
Fair comment and I didn't argue with the starting lineup but when we started to get a little bit of momentum in the 2nd Half but lacked any sign of getting anyone in the box bar Wirtz I'd have had a bit of a think about swapping him out

I'd be more positive about this result if the fraud hadn't parked the bus at home against Sunderland, dropped silly points against Leeds twice, Nottingham Forest, Fulham et al.

Until he shows he can break down a low block consistently - something he's admitted he basically can't do - then I'm not gonna crow about our unbeaten run or claim we've turned a corner.

We should be walking away this league. Not Stoke 2.0 and that Spanish lego-headed David Brent
Agree with that. Those dropped points hurt but in isolation this was a brilliant display and better than last season there when we actually won the league but were lucky to get a draw.

Words fail me
You need to go back and watch some of the passing on the middle as Arsenal tried to press. It was magical and something we haven’t seen enough of this season. We’ve been very sloppy at times turning the ball over in dangerous spots, especially Macca and Wirtz. None of that tonight against the best side in the league by a distance.

Magical.

We created heaps of opportunities but our shooting boots in shit weather let us down
We created _a few_ promising attacks, mainly down the right and won a couple of long range free kicks. It is no surprise Szobo shot from the free kicks because we had zero fucking attacking options. Same regarding the promising attacks, not capability to convert because no-one was getting into a position to convert

It was a good performance in the context of this season and the shit we found ourselves in. As far as where the team is at relative to arsenal in the last decade, it's hard to get excited.

If you thought we were going to get mullered and instead we got a decent point away, just take it as a success.

I think if we have ekitike maybe we steal that game. The fact that I expect absolutely nothing from gakpo, a more senior player at the peak of his abilities, is a problem.
Don’t disagree with this but also would you really have been shocked if at some point he cut inside and scored. I wouldn’t have been. The thing he does bring is goals.

Right I think it's time for there next match thread.

99% of the forum think we dug out a result from a resilient and hard fought midfield display, 1% think it was a magical display full of opportunities and near misses.

Night all. Thank whomever/whatever we didn't get bottom buggered and we live to fight the mighty Barnsley

I didn't think we'd get battered. Arsenal aren't that type of side. I just thought they'd grind out a boring 2-0 from a couple of corners and we'd be toothless. Still not impressed, but it was better than I was expecting.

I didn't watch the game, mind. It was nice.
We were very solid on set pieces and they had at least 7-8 free kicks or corners that tested us.

I think that would have been a gamble when we were completely on top. I’d have liked to see it but absolutely understand why he didn’t.

Wirtz just needed a better pass from Frimpong to score but yes we lacked bodies in the box for the majority.

Ha ffs. If we got raped but somehow scraped a 0/0 that’s be fine.

Are you seriously saying you weren’t impressed with that display esp the second half?

Arguably with all the pre game context it was our best display of the season without our three main attackers.

You should just say, aye humble pie for this game, I didn’t expect that but I still hate Slot and want him gone.
I would have been ecstatic if this was a CL tie and we won the home game.
Honestly, it was a good defensive performance. But, if we're comparing it to Klopp-style football, I'm talking Mané, Firmino, Salah up front?
It was shite.
It felt like a Houllier game.

The part where you didn't watch the movie but have an opinion about how good it was.

I'm talking about the result. I expected us to get beat. We didn't. The performance seems like it was decent enough, but lacking any cutting edge, judging by the comments on here.

So, it's still not great, but it was better than I expected. Picture expecting a turd sandwich and being served up a breadstick dipped in piss instead.

I don't have to picture it if I ate it.
