Post Match EPL Aston Villa (H) 2-0 8pm Saturday 1st Nov

Ekitike hasnt scored in the league since Everton, two starts and two subs since then. It's not concerning yet, but I don't think he had a shot today besides the offside goal.

Villa played right into our hands and made it as comfortable a night we could've wished for, both goals came from their back 5 being dogshite.....otherwise we struggled to create much of note for ourselves.

We still have glaring problems, big gaps when defending cheap turnovers, #9 completely isolated, Gakpo doing his usual one trick pony bullshit, Salah being hopeless losing the ball time and time again, taking our foot off the gas inbetween goals.

Dom MOTM, Mac & Robbo coming back in were positives. Mama did well early on with he had to do and the CB's totally dominated Watkins.

Bigger tests around the corner await us.

I think he has been a player of moments so far but more consistently than other 3. He has looked good but yes, he needs to be leading that line and doing more. The problem is that is true of all 3 hence the issues we are facing as team so far.

Couldn’t care less about Madrid. It’s all about city for me.

This is how the league should have started. I get that players need to be played to allow them to bed in, but there was no rush to force them in and persist with them come what may.

Players should get to play for this team based on merit, not transfer fees.

He kept dropping quite deep tonight. Did that pretty well, but not always available for the threw off the last shoulder.
He wasn’t helped by our slow play in the first half. The first time he seemed to get involved was that cross from Slobs which came in first time and they weren’t able to sort themselves out.

I had a really good day today. Got into town at about half two and wandered round the gallery with my son and really got deep into that 19th century room, with the funeral of Shelley and death of Nelson. Right outside there's a Nelson's column, smaller than the one in Trafalgar Square but a reminder that sometimes you don't have to be the biggest to be the best. You might be a diminutive asthmatic one armed one eyed warrior. You've just got to be hard as fucking nails and stick to the plan. You can absolutely fuck Napoleon up on less gas with less mates if you stick to the fucking program. In fact you can absolutely twat the thinking-they're-caeser pieces of shit if you just keep your head together and don't throw anybody overboard while you're trying to get your head together.

I watched the game with my brother today. One of the few things we keep in touch with about is football. Not cos we disagree with things but cos life is busy and it's easy to just text 'boss goal' or 'Wirtz is shit'. It feels good to say that all in real life once in a while. Especially after we watched the shit game on weds. Up the actually pressing reds

So what you’re saying is that Slot has got to lose an arm?

Ffs fuck off with this shite.

Everyone out for fucking blood pregame.

In the context of everything that was an outstanding performance.
In the context of everything, yes, a 2 nil home win where the opposition hit the post and the bar and we were gifted a goal and a deflection absolutely is a C.

A win is nice but let's not act like it was perfections. We play like that against Madrid or city then we're turned over.

The best part about our game was that the pressing was back. We were still sloppy in the final third, easily caught out for counter attacks and defensively all a bit last gasp.

We played better. We still didn't play good.

It was a C+/B-

But any win compared to our last 6 games will seem like an A+++, in reality it was passable, it appears a lot of fans struggle accepting reality.

He’d be more potent on the left than Gakpo, if Isak ever gets fit.

We got ‘gifted’ two goals because of our press and had the lions share of everything today. I think we play like that against Madrid we win. City no chance but in context of the season that was as good we could have expected imo.

Many expected another bad defeat.

Of course there is a long way to go but it’s a big step forward.

Those toff twats on the rest is history just finished a good set of podcasts about Nelson and his adventures.

So does this mean that the money we spent on Wirtz, and Isak is money down the drain ?- this was the best performance since the Arsenal game, we pressed well, Salah sort of knew what he was doing, and the midfield trio were brilliant, and Robbo rolling back the years was good to see. Still we have to question the nerds now don't we ?

Will check. Their four part thingy on Ireland until the first world war a year or two ago blew my mind. Why that and all the nelson shit isn't required reading in school is beyond me. It's exciting, demented, explains everything that's going on now, so what's not to love? But the history syllabus when I was in school was boring Russian Revolution shite, and just checking in with my laddo today it became clear that he didn't really know who Nelson was. Not because he's not interested, he entirely is, but the history syllabus in school is either weird monarchy shit or first world war with zero context. I'd blame myself for not telling him all about it but I didn't even know this stuff when he was growing up. I was only a kid myself when he was born and no-one taught me the juicy bits of history, I had to wander round Europe with a box of records and a bag of ket to make sense of all this nonsense.

Anyway, I think he'd have been better bringing Endo on for Mac as we tried to close it out.

No it means we transition slowly and carefully as we already have a very strong team. It doesn’t have to be a big bang approach.

Exactly. If the new kids are taking time to settle, as to be expected, then why bang them all in at the same time? And if you do, and it doesn’t work, repeatedly, maybe try a more measured approach and settle a few in at a time.

I’d understand if we were relegation fodder last season, but we won the league. Why would you completely gut a team that won the league at a canter with a flock of new talent that’s completely new to the team and each other?

It’s not like they’re on two year contracts either. Let them settle and take the pressure off them and let the adjustment occur at a natural rate.

I suggested playing Robbo at the start of the season over Kerkez for partly that reason. Yes, he’s not the player he was five years ago, the the defence know him and he knows the team.
Etc etc etc

Isak will come good without a doubt, and Flo has already started to settle. Hugo has been good. Give it time and use the rest of the squad to slowly ease them in.

I think there was a thread at the start of the season about us doing too much too fast. It would appear that there’s some merit in debating that point. Not necessarily with regards to buying the players we have, but as to how quickly we integrate them.

The episode on George Wallace which is part of their series on the US in 1968 is one of my favourites. General Curtis LeMay and his atom bomb fetish. They're so good at this stuff.
