Post Match EPL Burnley (H) 1-1 January 17th 15:00

We should've won that game comfortably tbf, we did well enough for an hour or so.

Pen miss, Gakpo 2 efforts off the line, Hugo being knackered after 60mins, Ibou back to having his braindead episodes all cost us.

I didn't think we created enough really. The pen was on the soft side. A few sniffs but didn't work the keeper much. Most of the shots were miles out, or had umpteen Burnley players blocking them.

Imo the answer to a team sitting deep is to get the ball wide and make the pitch big. Slot coaches the opposite - working the ball slowly, centrally in front of the opposition, looking for an eye of the needle pass. It's not football.

Positive:
Were unbeaten in 30 games! Yippee
We gained ground on man city! Yippee
Wirtz has arrived!

Negatives:
Our manager cannot change a game with subs - same exact path every time.
Team doesnt believe.
Fans don't believe.

Alisson has stopped making clinical saves this season. Like he's changed.
No he hasn't, he still does. Like the one from Konate but he can't always get us out of trouble. We are still leaking too many chances, not creating enough. Only thing that we have done better over last 12 games is we have stopped conceding first and maybe a little tighter but honestly, I think that's been over played as we had played some poor sides.

Well, I disagree. And from what I see he also started making uncharacteristic errors. Like with passing and positioning. Which also never really happened. Like he's compromised.

I think he has always made a few kicking errors but biggest issue isn't him. We give away too many chances still on transition, Slot hasn't fixed much over last 12 games. The run has papered over cracks but he has lost the fans and the crowd. Never seen everyone so apathetic.

Honestly we shouldn't have expected more
I expect nothing. I was mainly mocking the usual lot who are still somehow in denial about this manager.

I'm sure someone will tell us soon that's it's a transitional year and we are on an unbeaten streak any second now.

Maybe he's tired of having to fucking bail out this cunt of a manager every week? Maybe he's fed up of us playing like soft cunts and wants to head back to Brazil?

"if we are disappointed by this then something is wrong" 😂 (Not a typo)

"Draws with the likes of Leeds and Burnley at home, you know and I know that’s not acceptable.”

Isn't this the type of desperate shit managers say before they're about to get the sack? Here's hoping.

He said "if we are not disappointed by a draw" then something is wrong.

We would win that game the vast majority of the time, but not this season, which is the issue.

This is not really true. Liverpool played with many midfielders (Grav, Jones, Wirtz, Szobo) who are selfish and don't pass balls easily among each other. They fight for places among each other and then don't like passing to each other. Grav and Jones, in particular. But Szobo too has turned such. Nobody likes to pass it to Wirtz. That is an underlying issue that didn't start with the lead. Then there is the fact that Gakpo and Ekitike are fundamentally similar players (tall, fast, right footed). So they don't complement each other well.
Evidence is we play our worst football and are most vulnerable after we have a lead. We change our tactics completely, stop pressing, and sit back and let the other team play around our midfield until they find a pass (like today) or get a set piece in a dangerous area and score.

The main issue with the side at the moment as I see it is that a team needs very few chances to score against us.

Fulham with .78 xG scored 2 goals. That´s what it felt like to me.

Burnley with .4 xG scored once. So did we with 3.4 xG.

Now, that doesn´t tell us anything we didn´t already know, because at no point did I think that these teams were very lucky, and we were very unlucky, I felt more that we were doomed. That´s how we play, as though we are going to concede, and we do.

Every team coming to play us knows if they put together a credible 10 minutes of threat, they will probably score. When that is the case it isn´t the maths that changes, its the whole flow of a game. Teams aren´t crushed to concede. We aren´t relieved to do so. The supporters don´t believe something has changed. We are so mentally fragile, but we also are very passive in general off the ball and just basic when we are countered. It´s a vicious cycle where the lack of aggression allows teams to get a bit of momentum, and that the bit of momentum makes us less aggressive off the ball. You don´t need to commit a whole team to attack to score on us, and even if you do, we are not doing anywhere near enough punishing on the counter for it to matter.

That´s definitely a failure in coaching over a period of time. It´s also a failure of the players not having the character to push past that feeling and show a bit of confidence on the ball, show a bit of decision in build up, and do more positionally than just run back into two flat banks. The basics is not enough, that´s not the standard.

I think we urgently need two or three CB. Konate is unreliable player, Virg is getting slow. We need young CBs before Virg steps down. The LB and RB are OK.
In the midfield we have too many dominant players, Wirtz, Gakpo and Szobo sometimes get in each other's way, there's no clear leader.
Sobo, Grav and Gakpo needs rest.
Wirtz and Ekitike look good. Rio needs more minutes.
We must focus on CL to save the season.

When even Schmeichel says that he doesn't think Ali should have saved that shot (quote : attacker did everything right and with power) then you know you are wrong.
Can't believe someone is pointing the finger at Ali for that goal or for his performances over the season.
The guy has been the most consistent player on our team . he's still the best keeper we've had in the 45 odd years I've watched us
