EPL Week 26 Other Matches - February 10-12th

Everyone used to make fun of Stoke / Bolton type football. There was a general acceptance that yeah whilst you gotta do what you gotta do, it’s awful awful football.

Now it’s somehow been normalised, which is crazy. And to make things even worse, normalised by teams with big budgets who don’t have to compete like that.
It was always a bit of snobbishness about it though. "The beautiful game" etc.

It's business. Always has been. The good teams could just afford to have a bit more flair. Now flair isnt statistically viable.

What's Arsenal's excuse for their crappy football?
I get Brentford somewhat but even still, it's like they found a crappy hack in Fifa no one has found a fix for yet.

Arteta is Arsenal’s excuse, years of David Moyes indoctrination…..even Mourinho’s Chelsea had more flair than Arteta’s set up. Probably been watching the good old years of boring boring 1-0 to the Arsenal under George Graham on VHS.

I think throw-ins should have the same time restriction as Goalkeepers to put the ball into play.

That would make sense from a consistency standpoint and allow the game to flow. If you can use a towel in 6 seconds, good for you.

Just like baseball and basketball, analytics showing the most efficient route to a result are making the game less watchable.

No one wants to see NBA players chuck up 40 three pointers per game or the entire field shift in MLB because we know exactly where this player hits it. But players and managers are hired, paid and fired based on results.

I don't mind the long throws and attention on set pieces tbh. But the time taken to deliver them needs to be capped or else we might as well just run a series of discontinuous plays like American football.

I hate those throw-ins, but they’re a leveller. The bigger teams have the financial power to buy the best players, the smaller teams should be allowed to fight on their own terms. But they do need pulling up on time wasting.
