Post Match EPL Wolves (H) 2-1 27th December 15:00

From the BBC about Wolves: “This was certainly one of their more encouraging performances this season.”

Seems like same statement applies to almost every team we have played this season. We have no ability to put people away and don’t even seem to try. We just give people hope and let them show their best selves no matter how crap they are.

Positives

Frimpong continuing his return to full fitness and creating the first goal
Hugo fantastic for the second and developing a lovely understanding with Wirtz
Kerkez starting to look decent
Bradley returning to fitness, he was great second half
Wirtz continuing his upward trend and really starting to shine
Gakpo back on the pitch
Chiesa getting an hour
4/6 new signings starting and looking solid with the other 3 either with huge injuries or being a back up keeper.
Winning again on a very emotional day and without our best player this season in Dom and with several injuries
Up to 4th
Unbeaten in 7 and 4 wins in a row.

Negatives

Countless, the biggest one being our frustrating slow build up play and inability to manage a lead again.

Overall a vital win and just have to look at the other games to see everyone struggled today.

City & Arsenal 2-1 wins, Fulham late 1-0 and Everton drew 0-0.

Everyone full of Turkey. 3pts the most important thing today. Onwards and upwards and no new injuries tops

I mean they can have the main course and a dessert but maybe leave the cigars and brandy till full time.
I put both of them away - the twats don't deserve them. And I had a couple of mouthfuls of Tiramisu, a handful of Panettone (the way it's meant to be eaten - rip the bugger apart with my bare hands whilst imagining it's Slot's head) and a piece of Roca.

How did Federico do? Will he be dropped for not being the Lionel Messi of our times in the first start he’s got since 2000 BC

Im disappointed gakpo is back, and in lw ... he hurts this team. He should be a backup to ekitike for now.

The team is trying to regain a mentality and self belief and its going to take time. String wins together and hope it clicks.

Vvd worries me - is it what we saw with mo? Or he is struggling because of ibou?

I really dont want our players - ekitike etc - diving like little bitches. Enough.

Commentator said Gakpo has about 1 goal in every 3 games (150 games, inc. subs, for us) that's pretty damn good for a winger not called Mo Salah.

Did you see Cody turn onto his left and shoot? Respect if he’s trying to develop his ability to turn both ways. Quite a dinger of a shot

He has been very poor this year and his constant desire to do the same thing on the left flank is problematic imo. The team seems to be better attacking down the flanks now ... it will stop if gakpo is there.

I only saw bits cos it was on my phone and I was with my brother and his 4 year old and we watched a bit of it each. Saw two good goals, that was possible, but fucking hell we like to flap it don't we

Scranned at Maray. That was disappointing, used to be boss that. Somehow spent big bills on some over sweet weird food. Then drank some white claw with my brother cos he's running a marathon soon. Horrible. Think the lack of good food and pints made it a weird game. Swaying on the train now and off in search of a better scran

Was that the first time we actually didn’t give up 2 goals with a 2-0 lead? That might be positive, except they should have leveled with unmarked header on the 6 yard line.
Spurs the week before but we were still hanging on then. Most teams going 2-0 up relax and kill the game either closing it out or scoring a few more in the space where the opposition have to go for it.

With us, we stop playing and invite pressure. Crazy

1st half controlled the ball but played to slow and narrow. Scored 2 good goals...
2nd half we did the usual switch off and tried to just control the game and just concede a typical stupid goal and just shit the bed..
Wolves had won 0 draw 2 lost 15 and were the most likely to score..
Why do some People keep thinking that this is just some blip that we will get out of and we will get back to last season...
The tactics we're playing are the same tactics we were playing with in the 2nd half of the season. We struggled in so many games but won in the end so people then tend to forget the preformances and just remember the result.. Obviously we were better last season but tactically we were quite similar bar playing a lot wider than now and not as slow as this season

Wasn't a great performance but it's another three points. Let's just keep stringing those together and see where we're at come season end.

I don't need to be entertained right now. I need to see us climb back up the standings.

Whether Slot is our manager next season or someone else, I'd rather be in the Champions League than not.

If that means ugly, hesitant, unimpressive victories, I'm here for it.

And, on the positive side, Wirtz is really starting to come into his own, Ekitike continues to build on a strong start, Kerkez is showing signs.

There actually are things here to be positive about.

Chiesa is not the answer. I know he is not fit but how long do we need to get him fit? Has he ever been fit for the last 2 years or is this the final version we are seeing?

What he offers is a willingness to run behind the defence and try something different. However he operates like his brain moves faster than his body. It's difficult seeing him do his stepovers because nobody is falling for it.

Impact sub squaddie for 30 odd mins at best but it's better he find first team football somewhere at his level so he could get himself "fit".

David Lynch had a good point in his match review video - lion’s share of Wolves’ XG came in the goal-scoring sequence - the point-blank shot Alisson parried and the goal itself. Beyond that, they have created almost nothing of note - in other words, if not for our continued and maddening weakness at set pieces, we should have won this game quite comfortably.

The goal we conceded changed the complexion of the game and the mood around the stadium - if not for that, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance, but we really need to address our Achilles’ heel on set plays. It’s unreal that we’re currently at -12 for set piece goals in the league; that’s a humongous negative swing. If we’re up to 4th now, imagine where we would be with just a neutral set piece balance.

We barely created anything in the 2nd half as well.

They brought more players forward but we weren't able to capitalize at all.

Not sure what would have happened if they decided to play the 2nd half setup against us from the beginning.
