I know its 6 days until the game but the forum seems to be dead.. This is at least interesting.
Lets hope there are no injuries on International duty for us. The Blueshite werent so lucky with Coleman breaking his leg. Out for the season which is a big blow for them
No new injury concerns for us bar Hendo. For Everton Schneiderlin and McCarthy are struggeling.

Everton are in great form and this could be one of the trickier derbies for quite a few years.
Could be a great game and we need to win to keep the momentum for top 4 going.

I'd go:

Ming
Clyne Matip Lovren Milner

Lallana Can Wijnaldum

Mane Firmino Coutinho

Coutinho and Firmino are away with Brazil aren't they? Just looking at fixtures and Brazil play 1am (GMT) on weds morning.

Yeah, and we'll probably fly them home with a few of the other Brazil lads after the game like last time.

The good news is that Hendo will step up his return to training this week and might be in the squad for Saturdays game if all goes well.

As long as Can and Hendo aren't in the same starting XI I'll be happy. Coleman is a big blow for the bitters, but we've seen before it means little to nothing in a heat of a derby.

No Coleman, and now McCarthy and Schneiderlin ruled out too.

[article]Everton are furious with their midfielder James McCarthy for ignoring medical advice before sustaining the latest injury that is likely to keep him out for several weeks.

McCarthy limped out of the warm–up before Ireland’s World Cup qualifier with Wales last Friday after feeling his hamstring, a problem that has plagued him for the past two seasons.

Everton’s displeasure has been exacerbated by the fact that Morgan Schneiderlin is ruled out of Saturday’s Merseyside derby with a calf injury.[/article]

Schneiderlin being ruled out is a massive plus. They can bemoan their injuries, but Henderson and Lovren would have figured had they been fully fit, and our best striker has been sidelined forever.

McCarthy out would also be a huge plus; he's been playing really well for them. However, I'm not convinced he won't play. That report is a disingenuous from what I heard. He pulled himself out before the game saying he felt some tightening and didn't want to risk playing given his history of problems with his hamstrings, so he did exactly the right thing, and probably has given himself a chance of playing. I won't be surprised to see him in their team.

Firmino didnt train yesterday for Brazil. Some stuff about him being sick but Tiete said in his press conference that he'll play.
We're flying them right back to England after the game.

Has he? He's only played in half of their games since Xmas because he's been injured.

Which also addresses the "disingenous" bit, because the Bitters are fucking FURIOUS with the player and also Ireland, and didn't want him to travel at all.

In theory we have Firmino, Coutinho, Sturridge, Henderson all available in some part for this?

Yes, but they were furious with him for travelling. This report suggests they're furious because he got himself injured. The report I heard he decided not to play because he felt there was a risk of injury. So it is subtle, but definitely disingenuous. Like most reporting.

Don't even go there. He's clearly not our best "striker", if strikers are judged on normal stuff like goals.

If we're playing FIFA 17, Sturridge is our best striker. In reality, its now Firmino, given that Sturridge is never fit and has been dogshit all season.
Given the choice now, I'd say Firmino. That says quite a bit about Sturridge and his decline.

Given that we're the Premier Leagues top scorers after 29 games, it would be wrong to call us "short on goals". But the need for top quality striker this summer is a must. Signing a new striker that could chip in with 15-20 goals and offer some of the same attributes as Firmino would help us a lot.

What? So subtle it's fucking pointless making any distinction, because they ARE furious, he WON'T be fit, and they didn't want him to travel at all, or indeed even push himself to try and play.

So it's hardly disingenous, nor is it the first time they've bitched and moaned, he's been injured and unable to play for the last few games, and won't be fit for the derby.

Eh? I thought Firmino was going to score 15-20 goals? I kept hearing people saying that. You included.

Calm the fuck down Brendan. We'll see if he is fit or not. I know reading with any kind of subtlety is not your thing, but there is a pretty fucking important distinction between someone deciding not to play because he thinks he'd risk injury and someone actually injuring himself. That is where the report is being disingenuous. Obviously in your game, and with the target audience of the kind of reporting you are used to, such distinctions aren't worth making.

It's a bit weird, no matter how much I agree about the blatant fact that we lack a proper striker with goals, that posters keep on saying we are short on goals. We are simply NOT.

Unless of course your reasoning is that we somehow should outscore every other team in the league with +5 goals? +10 goals?

Fair enough we're all frustrated with our dips in form from time to time that really has hurt our chances for a top spot, and I also get the fact that Firmino, Sturridge, Origi etc. doesn't seem to have - for various reasons - the acquired skills to lead the line over the course of a season (especially not when Europe calls) but fact is no other team in the league has scored more goals than us.

Why is that fact not part of your argumentation when talking about our 'lack of goals'?

I for one wouldn't mind a bit if we won the league without a +20 goals a season player, and fact is, if we didn't leak as many goals as we've done in the wrong games we'd be capable of sitting top right now. Even with Firmino in the team.

It does seem a bit one-sided all this talk about us not scoring enough is all.

I'm very calm. You seem to be upset, not me.

And you also seem to be the one creating a "subtly disingenuous" narrative, when none exists, because it's all extremely fucking overt, clear and obvious, and he won't be fit.

There's no point interacting with you Brendan. You are incapable of reading.
