Surprise, surprise we just bought another youth player.

Reds land ex-Gunners starlet
Friday, 14 January 2011 22:57

After watching former Arsenal youth product Jason Banton in training Liverpool have signed the 18-year-old on a short term deal.

The winger had been at Blackburn Rovers over the past two years after being signed during Paul Ince's short tenure at Ewood Park but was released last month.

Eager to make progress quicker than the Gunners would allow the Londoner readily accepted move to Lancashire but has failed to make a first team outing.

Arriving on academy terms until the current season ends allows the Reds to take a longer look.

Academy director Frank McParland told the club's official website: "Jason has been training with us here at the Academy for the past three to four weeks.

"He's a talented winger who we feel can be a very good player for us.

"It didn't work out for him at Blackburn so we have stepped in and have signed him at least until the end of the season. It's up to him now to show that he has what it takes to wear the red shirt."

So Blackburn didnt want him, but we do.

Ah fuck, doesnt bode well. Still, he's a winger, so he could be partially disabled & still be in with a shot at Anfield.

SOUTHEND United are believed to be running the rule over Liverpool youngster Jason Banton with a view to signing the striker.

The 18-year-old, who can also play on the left-wing, had previously been with Arsenal and Blackburn before arriving at Anfield in January.

The Tottenham-born youngster figured as a second-half substitute for Liverpool in their 9-0 FA Youth Cup victory over Blues on Valentine’s Day.

And he is now set to train with the League Two club.

“Southend are keen to boost their attacking options and Jason caught their eye in the cup game,†said a source close to the club.

“Since then talks started between the two clubs and Jason will come down to train so Paul Sturrock can have a look at him.

“It will then be down to Paul if he signs him or not and if he feels Jason would suit the Southend team,†the source added.

The Shrimpers could well be taking a look at Liverpool youth Jason Banton in their quest to add another striking option to Paul Sturrock's squad as cost effectively as possible.

He's 18, can also play on the left-wing, and has previous experience with Arsenal and Blackburn before arriving at Liverpool in January.

Jason Benton is a decent prospect.

The Tottenham-born Banton came on as a second-half substitute for the Anfield side during their 9-0 of the Southend under-18's in their FA Youth Cup Fifth Round tie which became a Valentine's Day massacre.

And according to that legendary Echo source, young Jason is coming down the M6 to train with the Shrimpers.

We certainly need some striking back up for top scorer Barry Corr and Blair Sturrock and have little dosh in the bank, actually we have none at all, so this could be a cost effective option while helping out the legendary Scouse Premiership team as well.

The 'source' told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Southend are keen to boost their attacking options and Jason caught their eye in the cup game. Since then talks started between the two clubs and Jason will come down to train so Paul Sturrock can have a look at him. It will then be down to Paul if he signs him or not and if he feels Jason would suit the Southend team."

Now, if they throw in five goal Raheem Sterling we might be interested.

He has "OFFICIAL PAGE OF JASON BANTON Liverpool Football Club" written on his twitter page

Southend United manager Paul Sturrock has hinted he could be about to sign Liverpool striker Jason Banton on loan with a decision made before the trek to Morecambe Saturday.

We should have known better than to doubt the Echo's legendary source, the Shrimpers are not only interested in taking a look in Liverpool youth striker Jason Banton, he's already been involved in training!

And Blues boss Paul Sturrock likes what he's seen so far.

Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Jason has come in and he certainly looked lively in training on Tuesday. He came to us after a discussion with an agent he shares with some other players here and we obviously saw him when he played against us in the FA Youth Cup as well. He will be back in today and he plays in a position we're looking to strengthen so we will decide what we want to do and ahead of Saturday's game at Morecambe as well."

As we wrote yesterday this fits in with adding to a depleted squad as cost effectively as possible and though Luggy hasn't had much luck with youthful loans so far hopefully left winger Jason will change his luck.

Certainly anyone who has trained with Liverpool, Arsenal, er, Blackburn, must be worth a shout.
