Look at what Cannavaro (I think it's him behind Ramos?) is doing! Penalty!
Boom! What a ride those few weeks were. Amazing stuff. I watched the return leg in a bar in an Italian ski resort and was told by the bar man that even by Italian standards I was a headcase whilst watching the game. We thrashed Real Madrid! Happy days.
Not only have we never failed to beat Real, we've never so much as conceded a goal to them. 😎
Man, we were good at that time. Both GH and Rafa after him got us to the threshhold of something really special, but were ultimately too fearful to take that final step. What a pity for us and for them - two guys who truly loved the club and so badly wanted to take us back to the very top.

I was in the Bernabeu that night. It was a classic Benitez smash and grab. THe celebrations went on long into the night!

Hopefully on the last day of the 2018/19 season we'll have a 5 years ago thread showing our utter dominance of England's domestic league, with a picture of our then retired club legend Steven Gerrard lifting the pl trophy above his head with Alan Pardew looking bitter in the background!
That won't happen. It will be Tony Pulis looking on instead...
