Has the 'Scouse Cafu' become a bit of a forgotten man here? The arrival of Manquillo and Moreno have been a breath of fresh air for us and finally we have fullbacks that we seem to trust. Flanagan was ever present in our title run last year and made himself indispensable to our team but what does the future hold for him? A utility player to cover both full back positions and be rotated in and out of the side?

Is Manquillo now ahead of him in the pecking order for RB? When is Flanagan back?

He's out for at least a couple of months i think. I reckon he'll be first choice right back as long as he doesn't do a Martin Kelly

I think Helen Flanagan has 2 really great full...

Wait, wrong Flanagan.

Flanagan still has a role to play given how likely both Johnson and Enrique get injured quite often (Having said that, Flanagan seems injury prone himself too). It's also worth remembering that Moreno and Manquillo are still young, and would be rotated often. The thing is about Rodgers' tactics is that the fullbacks really run themselves to the ground every game, so it would be great to have at least 4 really good fullbacks a la Man City.

I think he'll find himself understudy to Manquillo but ahead of Johnson who we can hopefully fuck off the wage bill asap.

He'll be third choice right back and third choice left back.

Sad for him I guess, but shows good strength in depth.

I thought Manquillo was pretty decent until Glenjo came on and what a difference it was !

Like him or not, Glenjo is still the no.1 RB. And i still think he's a dodgy defender.

It'll be interesting to see who starts against Madrid. Manquillo or Johnson.

Johnson has the big match experience but Manquillo will be eager to impress considering the opposition.

I've always been a big critic of Johnson, still am, but I would have him starting vs Madrid, no question. Manquillo has done very well, but very well by the standards a young up and comer who's not had a huge amount of first team experience would have. Still nowhere near Johnson's calmness in tough situations, nor the final product when joining the attack.

Yeah, I would start Johnson vs Madrid. If feels safer. Although once in a while a young defender can have a career-defining game against the giants. Like Arbeloa vs Barca when he successfully marked Messi. I guess Rodgers has to go with his gut.

He's a decent defender, but he'll have to prove himself all over again. Definitely worth keeping around for now.

Wasn't Manquillo's best performance last season against Real Madrid when he shut down Ronaldo until he had to come off injured?

I think we miss Flanno to some extent. His aggression would fire up other players at times last season, in some games this season we missed that emotion and tough attitude.

I don't think Rodgers has a gut feeling where defending is concerned. What he needs to do is decide on his best four defenders and keep playing them. But inevitably, one of them will make a mistake at some point and be dropped again. Ad infinitum.
