I just can't wait for the season to start. I fully expect tis to be one of the most open formula one seasons in a long time. With the raft of changes it also makes highly unpredictable as to who will come out on top.

I think Lewis will be champ at the end of season although i have a worrying eye not on ferrari but the Renault powered team redbull. Vettel has looked immense in testing although it can be said that pre season testiing can be wildly misleading.

The other thing i can't wait for is the BBC coverage back where it belongs dun dedededededede dun (is there enough de's in the fleetwood). BBC look to have some intresting things lined up in its coverage. Such as being able to watch an entire grand prix from drivers cock pits.

How the new rules impact the sport is still to be judged but hopefully its going to build on the most exciting finally i had ever seen in an F1 season.

Predictions

Drivers champ: Hamilton to pip it
Dark Horse: Vettel
Team Champ: I think it mclarens turn.

Just to get you in the mood.

Here have some tissue.

HMM.......Raikkonen Ijust don't think the lads heart is in it at all, there were strong rumours of him even retiring last year and the boy is only 27-28. Heidfeld possibly but i would say Kubica will have more of chance as he will be the No 1 Driver for BMW.

Intresting shot from jerez, look at the fornt wheels of the mclaren. They seem to be the only teamrunning them. Is that the KERS device possibly. Most the cars this season look pig ugly but has anyone seen the redbull renault car. Truly beautiful piece of design considering the constraints.

22days to go.

Has Jenson Button really taken a massive paycut ?
I would assume he would have considering the state the team is in. From what ive read he will have to take 50% cut. So he would be on 7.5mil $

Now thats crazy for a guy who has only won 1 race in his entire carrer.

What's the general feeling on Nelson Piquet Jnr.?

His old man was my favourite as a kid...
Hmmm.... i think the jury is still out on this kid. He was close to being dropped mid season by renault last year. Then the race in germany he came 2nd. (That was awesome race watching Hamilton carve through the field and that pass on massa. I digress.) Saved his seat at renault that drive. This season is a make or break for him.

Forgot about this rule change that cars will no longer able to refuel in 2010 season. Whats peoples opinon of this? I personally think it will be awful takes away a great part of racing. Just think all teams will now know that the car can go to end no great tactical battles between the teams. Races hinge o if you have the right strategy and its part of the excitment. IMO its a huge mistake to do this.

Honda or someone or something has confirmed that the EX Honda team will still be in the 2009 season but won't comment on the name or setup of the team or anything that? I guess most people already knew that, though.

When does the new season start?

Just been announced that the winner of the world championship will be the driver with the most wins this season. If this was the case last season Lewis Hamillton would not have been world champion.

I personally think this is a bad idea, Drivers should also be rewarded for consistency. Someone could win the first 7 races in a season then not finish for the rest of the season and still win the world championship.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7948455.stm

Formula 1 has introduced a new points system that will result in the driver with most wins crowned world champion.

The current points system will still operate to decide a tie if two drivers have the same wins and to define all other championship positions.

Had the new rules been in place in 2008, Lewis Hamilton would have lost the title to runner-up Felipe Massa.

From 2010, there will be an optional budget cap of £30m that will reduce some teams' spending by 90%.

The new rules were approved by the World Motor Sport Council of governing body the FIA at a meeting in Paris on Tuesday.

It rejected a proposal by the F1 Teams' Association to tweak the points system to 12-9-7-5-4-3-2-1 from first to eighth places.

Instead, the current 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 system will stay in place.

The budget cap is an attempt to make F1 more accessible to new teams.

Teams choosing to operate within the budget cap will be allowed more technical freedom.

Those teams will be allowed: a more aerodynamically efficient (but standard) underbody; movable wings; an engine which is not subject to a rev limit or a development freeze.

Teams can choose to spend what they like, but operate within more restrictive technical rules - and therefore have a theoretically slower car.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone announced his intention to shake-up the points system at the end of last season.

Ecclestone's idea was to award the top three drivers with gold, silver and bronze medals with the driver capturing the most golds crowned champion.

While the medals have been abandoned the new system delivers on Ecclestone's wish of rewarding the driver with the most victories.

The F1 chief believes the new system will encourage overtaking.

"If you're in the lead and I'm second, I'm not going to take the risk of falling off the circuit or doing something stupid to get two points," Ecclestone said in November.

"If I need a gold medal to win the championship, I will overtake. It's just not on that someone can win the championship without winning a race."

However, the new system could see the season settled much earlier.

The points distribution was introduced in 2003, partly to try to ensure the world championship stayed open for longer at a time when Michael Schumacher and Ferrari were dominating the sport.

If the new system had been installed in 2008, Massa would have been crowned world champion as he won six races compared to Hamilton's five.

The FIA also announced plans to publish the weights of the cars after qualifying for each Grand Prix.

That could give a clue to which teams are using the optional kinetic energy recovery system (Kers).

Kers, which allows drivers a boost of an extra 80bhp for 6.7 seconds each lap, weighs around 35kg and could tip some cars - complete with their drivers - over the minimum weight of 605kg.

To improve clarity, wet tyres have also been renamed "intermediates" and extreme weather tyres are now called "wet".

With in-season testing now banned, the FIA will only allow teams to carry out eight one-day aerodynamic tests on a straight piece of track.

Teams will also be allowed to carry out three one-day young driver training tests between the season-ending Grand Prix and the end of the calendar year.

Is there 18 races?

I know it's never gonna happen, but assuming you the first 10 races does that mean you can go on holiday for the rest of the season?

No because they've already scrapped that rule, only lasted 2 days. Championship is decided on points again.

4 Days to go, God i am fucking excited. S ince winter testing has been completed, it looks like its going to be a really unpredictable season. Mclaren have been 2 seconds off the pace of everyone else. Brawn racing and williams have been consistently at the top of testing times. So Since testing has been completed has anyone changed there idea about constructors and drivers championships.

Championship Massa, Button Alonso one of those 3 can't decide

Constructors Ferrari

Dark Horses Brawn, Williams

i'm on my phone so can't see if anyone's posted it. But has anyone seen the new beeb F1 advert with the yellow and black cars. Made me get a semi lob.

Anyway, new rules. They've scrapped the new points system after they realised it was shit, sorry illegal. On hold till next season.

I can't wait, especially as the clocks going forward means the race will be on at normallish time of 8am

Forget - with due deference to David Coulthard and Murray Walker - the presenters.

The bombshell news is that the return of Formula One coverage to the BBC will also bring the return of the best, the most evocative, the most spine-tingling piece of theme music in the sporting world.

Yes, Fleetwood Mac's The Chain is back, and while Coulthard, the venerable Walker and their colleagues will all be welcome on our screens, there cannot be a petrolhead in the land who is not already humming those opening notes in anticipation.

All together now: Dum, da da da, da da da da da dum....

is F1 being handicapped? this seems ridiculous, can anyone explain it?

Lewis Hamilton's worst fears were realised today when he began his world championship defence down among the tailenders.

He was well off the pace in opening practice for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne which was dominated by Williams, Brawn GP and Toyota, the controversial "Diffuser Three".

For Hamilton, who is accustomed to competing at the front of the grid, it was a humbling experience, setting only the 16th fastest time in the morning.

It got worse in the afternoon when he slumped to 18th out of 20 starters. With a best time of 1min 27.813sec, Hamilton was nearly 1.8sec slower than Nico Rosberg of Germany, who led both sessions in his Williams.

In Formula One terms, that is a massive margin which, if carried into the race, would result in Hamilton suffering the embarrassment of being lapped.
