Thinks he owns the place

Looks like we are interested in a summer move. One of the bigger CB prospects out there and someone who can replace Konate.
Has been scouted a lot. 6’3 and will fit that RCB perfectly.

Key Scouting Attributes:
  • Defensive Style: Aggressive, proactive, and "front-footed." Excels at reading the game to intercept and stopping/reducing danger.
  • Ball Playing: Comfortable stepping into midfield, with excellent passing range and composure.
  • Physicality & Athleticism: Tall with an athletic, elastic frame suited for modern, high-line defensive roles.
  • Versatility: Capable of playing in a back three (right side) or a traditional back four.
  • Mentality: Described as having high-level leadership and maturity beyond his age.

Doesn't look very comfortable on the ball and a bit clumsy. Surely we need someone proven and experienced to take over konate.

what the fuck is it with chelsea!! there’s a very real chance their manager is a clown, their squad depth is the mariana trench and they don’t win a lot of competitions

ESPN's resident scout Tor-Kristian Karlsen:

In only his first full year of his top-flight career, Jacquet has emerged as one of the most promising young center backs in France. What makes him stand out at this early stage is how complete he already looks.

His standout traits are his game-reading and calmness
; he is composed on the ball -- seven progressive passes per 90 minutes this season -- and measured when defending. He rarely overcommits, preferring to wait out the attacker and win the ball cleanly, either through an interception or controlled sliding challenge ... which has become a signature feature of his game.

Jacquet moves fluidly, hits top speed quickly and consistently looks like he has an extra gear even when up against the speediest opponents. While at 6-foot-2 he isn't that imposing, he compensates with an impressive vertical leap and his 74% aerial win rate is the best in Ligue 1 among center backs with more than 1,000 league minutes this season.

Just 53 total senior appearances
By way of example, to date, the defender has made just 51 senior league appearances, 17 of which were in Ligue 2 with Clermont. Two more appearances have come in domestic cups, whilst he has also added 29 more in the French national youth sides.

Brilliant on the ball
Of course, a pre-requisite for any modern defender is to be confident on the ball, bringing it out of defence with purpose and finding a teammate with a pass as often as possible, and this is where Jacquet scores highly.

This season alone, he has made 835 successful passes from 918 attempted, for a sensational pass completion rate of 91%.

Over the course of his fledgling career, 2,415 of his 2,719 passes have reached their target, with his stats going as high as 93.6% during his time with Clermont.

Whether short or long passes, in his own half or the opposition's, Jacquet's consistency in this regard is laudable. 286 successful passes into the opponent's territory from 341 attempted this season have seen a career high 95.2% return.

Just two errors leading to goals
Dominant aerially - 30 duels won from 42 attempted - and unwilling to shirk a tackle, given he's also won 70 one-to-ones on the floor from 107 attempted, is also a positive aspect to his play.

As is just two errors made leading to goals, the winning back of possession on 219 separate occasions and the rarity of fouls that he gives away.

He’s extremely comfortable with the ball. 90% passing completion and as Binny posted he is very good at passing it forward and staying calm under pressure. He’s very young as well.

Of the 2 million CBs that Chelsea have signed, I like the one from Leicester the best, he's a top player. Pity he's injured all the time.

I don't profess to being an expert, but on youtube he doesn't look that comfortable at all and his passing range wasn't great. Reminded me of konate level technically. I thought we wanted better than that.

Agreed re Konate, but he's much more comfortable on the ball. Might not come across in the Youtube vids though.

I would be wary of using defenders passing stats.

To me. To you. To me. To you.

We need defenders who are good off the ball, don't really care about passing as we have plenty of players who are good with the ball.

Yeah, I think we can get too hung up on this sort of thing and paint ourselves into a corner. Look at Gomez, his passing against Marseille was really good, but if he didn't die every other game would his stats highlight his passing as particularly outstanding? I'd be more keen on understanding how good one v one any CB is, how aerially dominant, how good their positioning is etc.

Depends on the stats. This is part of his scouting report:

A. Distribution, Progression & Passing Reliability

Data
•Passes Attempted: 57.3 per 90 (44th %ile)
•Pass Completion: 90.5% (64th %ile)
•Total Passing Distance: 1047m (56th %ile)
•Progressive Passing Distance: 406m (71st %ile)
•Progressive Passes: 2.84 per 90 (32nd %ile)
•Medium Pass Completion: 94.3%
•Long Pass Completion: 72.3% (81st %ile)
•Passes into Final Third: 3.58 per 90 (62nd %ile)

•Key Passes: 0.34 per 90 (68th %ile)

Security first distribution with clean medium/long execution. Passing volume sits in the league’s mid-range for CBs, but the efficiency — especially long-pass accuracy — reflects stable mechanics and a calm release under pressure. Final-third access is above positional median, showing comfort stepping forward and connecting into midfield. Progressive passing volume is not high, but the quality indicators (completion rates, distances) point to a centre-back who selects progression moments carefully rather than forcing play.

So, to me he's very comfortable on the ball and can add that passing through the lines that we miss with Konate. Which can be developed further.

But the most important thing is that he wins over 65% of his ground duels and 74 % of his aerial duels, at 20 years old.
I've seen some claim he has the biggest chance to be a defensive star out there, so it would be a shame if he ends up at Chelsea.
Depends on the fee and wages, but if we can sign him. Go!

I wonder too but a bigger qn is, what the fuck is wrong with us?!?

Our manager is an unfunny soulless HR manager and our depth is the cleavage on Marilyn Manson.

We have one senior centre back standing and our DOF is monitoring market opportunities for the summer while our top targets sifgn up for the bench at City and Chelsea

Sadly there arent many CBs that you can sign in January though, besides Guehi. At least not many that you would want past this summer.
