Gerrard Return...?

Klopps game is too fast for him he'd destroy his hamstrings in a breath.
Get him on the coaching staff.

It's fairly hard to judge who will make a good coach anyway so it's basically just guesswork.

I mean if Souness was around playing these days people would be licking their chops at the prospect of him stepping into management.

Exactly. And coaching kids is different again from dealing with star players and their ego's and the pressure of football at the highest level and it's demand for results. I have my reservations about his suitability to coaching a top club but working at the Academy is different again.

He's probably got that weird American twang people who move there for a couple of years get.

So no.

Speak for yourself C/O, you've been a bartender to too many american girls it seems 🙂

I'm in Vegas this weekend as it turns out!

If he wants to work at the Academy while he does his badges then fine. Those kids need someone driving them on to be more competitive, and the very least he'd do is that.

He already has some of the badges. I know because I was amazed to discover that quite a few famous players have done them through my college

Yes (don't Bedford, of all places, do a lot?), I think he'll be qualified by next summer. So it would be a short stint if he did come.

I was amazed at the list of names. The only ones I can remember off the top of my head are Stevie, Carra and Matt LeTissier, but there were other well known ones on there.

I can only assume we sent someone out to do them, I can't see them rocking up at our place and enrolling with a bunch of lil bredrins from fucking Putnoe yeah.

Although we did have Eddie the Eagle do an electrical course with us, that was quite amusing

He's not going to PLAY, dreamy. He's Steven Gerrard, and if he wants to come back and help out in some other capacity, I say let him try.

How amazing would it be if he came and we won the league! He deserves it for all those years he carried the team. Even if he came on for the last five minutes or so when we were winning it would be worth it. I'm with Modo on this one!

Me too

It is two years down the line and yes his legs did look gone in the last season he played.

Then again - he was effectively playing a deep role just in front of the CB's in a horrible unorganised defence.

It's no wonder his legs looked gone.

Can't see it happening unfortunately - unless he's coming back to train in the off season / work in coaching badges and impresses Klopp so much that he becomes viable.

He'd help the kids in the Academy I'm sure. Plus, he'd attract other good ones to the club. Use his name before kids forget who he was.

We're a club aiming to win league titles. , not a retirement home for legends.

Our playing staff should be the best at what they do. Same goes for coaching staff. No room for sentimentality.

I was chatting with a United fan last week who was gloating that Gerrard never won the Premier League. It wouldn't matter if we won it this season as Gerrard still wouldn't have won a Premier League.

Welll, I would love it if he came back, played a bit part and we won it, if only to see the guy's reaction to it.

Utd didn't do too badly after they wheeled Robson out to get him a medal.

I reckon it'd be a pretty bittersweet experience... finally getting that medal but knowing you had very little to do with it.

I loved Gerrard but that ship has sailed.

I recall byran robson lifting the ttile with steve bruce when with united won thier first title.

Quite a few similarities including; Gerrard and Robson were for a long time the best players in their respective teams but were let down by a lack of quality teammates, Robson was 36 and well past it when he won his first league medal (Gerrard is 36 now). Would love to see it but I doubt it will happen.

Gerrard's return would be great for the youth and younger first team players. He has much to offer still but would essentially be a peripheral squad player. He is almost done with his coaching badges and that is the next logical step for him. A EPL winners medal would be awesome and complete his set not to mention mightily piss off more than a few opposition fans.

I'm in two minds about this.

Klopp is starting to make an impression and hopefully consistency with it. If SG wants to come back and learn and apply himself at the Academy and work his way up then I'm for it. If not, then I'd be concerned that this could upset the balance. Things are good and improving, why upset that to accommodate someone else.

Playing is a different discipline to coaching and managing.
