Kostas Tsimikas: “My brother is a Liverpool fan and he pushed me to come here and sign. [As] a kid, I supported Liverpool. For all my family and for my brother, we are very happy for this.”

"I think until now he [his brother] doesn't believe I'm here. Now when he sees the pictures he will understand I've signed here and will be very happy.”

No, hence me saying this guy needs a Robbo-like transformation in my first post about him.

And the excitement is all based upon YouTube videos. The only reason I hold out any hope at all that this might turn out okay is because of the work done with Robbo - I've said for ages he became quicker and fitter after six months with us. And that's what led to the transformation.

But he was already a Premier League starter and a regular in his international side when we bought him at age 23.

This Greek lad is neither, so he's got a bigger jump to make. He doesn't jump out as someone obviously capable at performing above Greek League level in those videos.

The hype is mostly over his preforms in Europe. Against Spurs, Arsenal and then Wolves.

Stopped Adama Traore dead.

There have been about five to seven clubs chasing him for the last year. It's not a surprise signing.

These are metrics Rurik.

You're supposed to be impressed

This is why I use his CL and EL stats vs Robbo's and Trent's – you need to compare apples to apples.

It's fair to say the average standard of RW's he's come up against in Greece pales in comparison to even the relegated EPL clubs. However he did do well against the likes of Traore, Lucas Moura and Aubameyang, although Pepe did give him a torrid time by some accounts. It's going to be a learning curve, but I wouldn't say he needs a "transformation" – just to continue his already impressive rate of development.

This is an interesting take. You could indeed make an argument that some of our most successful signings have been initially "second choice":

Tsimikas being an alternative to Lewis is a bit funny and excellent from a wider perspective. * Tsimikas is better * It proves that LFC's targets are well researched * 2nd choice is always massive success

Draxler > Mané

Brandt > Salah

Chilwell > Robertson

Joao Mario > Wijnaldum

To be fair, Ross, he’s also played In the Chanpions’ and Europa Leagues.

More likely our first choices are our second choices.

Yeah, but from those YouTube videos he doesn't jump out as someone who can make the leap.

I'd be interested to know the time lines of the deals we had for Lewis and Tsimkas, because the bid for Lewis went through the same day Edwards was supposedly in Wolverhampton with Tsimkas agent following their Europa League match.

Tsimkas said he came up straight after the game implying the deal was already wrapped up with Olympiacos. It wouldn't surprise me entirely if the bid to Norwich was a bit of a bluff. We don't often leak to journalists we've made a bid. I know Leicester were reportedly sniffing around Tsimkas.

Whatever happened though its good to see us being decisive and efficient in the market.

If the bid for Lewis was a charade, it's a bit of a cunt's trick unless Jamel was in on it.

I think the club would have been pleased with either option but probably knew what Norwich's position would be.

So they put themselves into a no lose position. Not bad.

From the Norwich fan forum:

LOL

Like Wilson would be interested in a Championship team and as if Norwich would be splashing the cash given their relegation, lack of sales and Carrow road being empty of its 25k-ish (?) fans. They could offer £21m and they'd be turned down!

Not to side track this thread but I don't think any team is willing to pay £20 mill for Wilson. Sure the boy is a decent player but if the tables were turned, would you pay £20 mill for Wilson if you were looking for a left winger for a premier league team?
Especially in this economic climate?
I don't think so.

Just as it was Liverpool’s decision to say no to Norwich‘a valuation of Lewis, it’s also the potential buyers’ prerogative to say “eff off” to Liverpool’s valuation of Wilson.
Norwich fans and all the other outraged are just miffed we got a player for close enough to what we valued Lewis.

I'm sort of not getting their reaction. Either they think he's a great player and so their high valuation turned us away which is a win for Norwich, or they think he's expendable and their overvaluation was a tactical blunder and they are stuck with him.

He's clearly a good player so shouldn't they be happy they still have him to push for first time promotion?

His overall play might not be that great and not suitable for a club in the top 6. But I can see him developing into an attacker who can score more than 10 goals every season in the premier league. Most of the clubs which finish between 10 and 20 in the league score only 35-45 goals in their entire season. So having an attacker who can score 10-14 goals will be gold dust for these clubs as it may help them stay in the league. I can see us getting close to 20 million even in this economic climate.

From what I've gathered, they really don't think he's that great. It's all about how much he "potentially" could have improved at LFC.
I keep reading how Lewis lost his spot in the team to Byram and only got it back when he got injured.
Personally I still think there was potential, but nah not even close to being worth a £20 mill gamble.
He'll probably be sold during this window. They won't ask Palace or other teams outside of the top 6 for the same amount. Will probably be some undisclosed amount to save face.
