Wait, was that our midfield last season, feels like someone is missing?

Edit: Ahhh Thiago

He was often missing last season too.

In all fairness though, both Jones and Elliott got a few goals and assists between them last year from midfield.

This time last season. We are on 16 points and GD of 10, which our performance this year better than Arsenal's over the same period last year. There's people who are still Klopp out despite this

There are a few points of interest this season and I think they typify an increased flexibility from Klopp both in terms of tactics and personal. We've become a multi-functional, swiss army knife of a side, that can produce different kinds of threats from all areas of the pitch and off the bench. We're nowhere near as fluent as Klopp's first side, but preparing for us right now must be a nightmare. Do you press us and risk Nunez and Trent ripping you apart? Do you sit back and try and outscore our attacking options on the counter? We've not got Macallister who can open up defences from the 6, Dom S who can spash it from 25 yards. Our set piece efficiency has been amongst the highest in the last 18 months, too. As a result, I genuinely think sitting back against us will be getting less and less appealing for managers.

We still can be vulnerable to direct balls on the counter, and we're still not doing enough to prevent crosses into the box, but If I'm an opposition manager now I would accept that I'd likely need a 2 goal advantage at HT to stand a chance of getting something from the game.

I'm honestly impressed by this side. We've always had problems with teams parking the bus/playing a low block against us, even during the Mane, Firmino and Salah days.

This season we have a group of players with the skillsets to hurt opponents in several different ways.

Jota, Szobo and Salah who can play in tight spaces.

Big target men or complete forwards in Nunez and Gakpo who can hurt you from set pieces and crosses into the box.

Shooting from outside the box in Szobo. I hope Curtis and Gravenberch can be added to this category.

Midfielders who can break the opponents first line of defence.

Poacher type striker in Jota, he's much more than a poacher though.
We've also got excellent counter attacking players.

There's probably more, but as long as we manage to avoid injuries, this team can be a force this season.

Amazing what a dynamic midfield can do for a team. It makes it all the more frustrating that this wasn't addressed - at least in part - last year. There's no way of really knowing what went on behind the scenes, but perhaps Klopp should have been a stronger advocate for change last summer.

I mentioned this somewhere else on the forum - we have made a huge jump in creativity from Hendo/Fabs to Mac/Szobo/Grav/Gakpo and Nunez + Mo have both stepped up this season too. Our creativity has gone from a C- to an A+ and it's a nightmare for teams to plan against/combat.

Going from the Fab, Hendo Milner and Ox of last season to Mac, Szobo Grav and Endo this has to be one of the biggest upgrades in 1 position, ever.

Even if there was a stick period in the summer between the Szobo and Endo signings, you gotta applaud the work we got done.
