If Wales and England had been forced to add in a few inferior players from Scotland and N Ireland just for the sake of it, it would of demeaned the spirit of the olympics.

I'm glad we've picked the best players available to us, we've got a chance of a medal now.

The Scottish and Northern Irish Football Associations were both hostile to the idea of their players participating in a Great Britain team. It's because of their fear of setting a precedent that might put an end to the UK's unique entitlement to have teams from the four home nations all competing in international competitions. The Welsh Association was the only one willing to co-operate.

I am going to the soccerfest at Old Trafford on Thursday but having seen some of Team GB v Brazil, I have backed Senegal at 4/1.

Pearce had the option of choosing NI or Scottish players. He didn't. GB my arse.
 
If any Scottish or Northern Irish players had agreed to join the team, they would have been defying the wishes expressed by their football associations. In my opinion Pearce was told by the English FA not to stir it up by selecting them.

It's not just that, each of the four home FAs have one vote in the whole big scheme of things that FIFA like to run. Northern Ireland, with a population of 1.8 million has as many votes as one quarter of the rest of the Earth!
