hiya, I have been away for a while and just logging back on to catch up. I see we have spent a lot of money on henderson and apologies for being too lazy to read all the posts on him, but can someone explain what he is like?

pacy?
skills?
hardnut?
central or wide?
if he fulfils his potential what great player could he be like?

thanks in advance.

He's from wearside :-\

He had a poor under 21 championship but you can blame pearce for that

Sunderlands player of the season 2010/11

He's a Red..

Started out as a RM, been playing a lot in CM for the Mackems but at least some of their fans think he's still best out wide.

Good touch, passing ability and a great cross on him, another who doesn't look particularly quick but looks like he'll get goals and provide (more) good delivery from outwide and the middle of the park. Takes Sunderland's setpieces too.

Yep. He was excellent in the first half of last season, best player on the park when Sunderland went to Chelsea and won 3-1(?)

Not one of them players that tries to the fancy stuff - keeps it simple, is a willing runner and can finish when in on goal.

Can't say he was on my list of players i wanted us to sign, but i'm happy we have him. The fact that he can play in a few positions/roles is a real bonus as well.

But 7 years younger and no serious assault convictions.

I'd say so. He won't be the flashiest, but that's probably a good thing anyway.

Sunderland fans seems to think when he's good he's really good, when he's shite he's really shite. So if he can get that inconsistency out of his game he's going to be a great signing. I mean if he's consistently good, not consistently shite.

I have not got a fucking clue where/how this lad will fit in to the team..

On the right and dislodging Kuyt? In the middle to replace a crocked Stevie?

I'm baffled.

Would he even make it into the starting 11?

Think he's an energetic right wing option as kuyt will be used primarily as a forward i imagine

Yup a modern day Houghton or Craig Johnstone.

Ive read other forums aswell as this and a lot of people are showing different formations on how they think we will set up next season and hardly any of them include henderson. People forget he`s got a big part to play and never signed to sit on the bench.

He's like Steven Gerrard, only better.
[/quote]

Which version of Gerrard - at the peak of his powers or current?

I'm not convinced about Henderson. I also suspect that his best position is in the middle, where we're already overcrowded. I hope he proves me wrong and turns out to be great though, obviously.

My Sunderland mate reckons he's crap centre mid and was only played there because of injuries. He's a far better right winger.

I caveat this by saying I didn't know he existed before we offered the GDP of an island nation for the spiky haired ne'er-do-well foetus.

so Downing on the left & Henderson on the right..

makes sense...

Probably allows us to keep both ming & aqua

So if we sign Dann it might look like:

-------------Suarez Carroll
Downing Gerrard Adam Henderson
Baines Dann Carragher Johnson
-------------------Reina

Suarez and Reina would be the only Johnny Foreigners in the team! How odd would that be after years of French and Spanish etc...

In fact, this makes quite a lot of sense in relation to the formula we had under Kenny last season. With Maxi and Meireles out wide, we seemed to be sometimes 442 and sometimes 433. Same would work with Downing and Henderson, with Downing pushing forward like Maxi to more of a 433 shape, and Henderson either crossing from wide or pulling into the centre, depending on the shape of the team. I remember Meireles doing a fair bit of that last season. So we can easily switch from my other lineup to this:

------Downing Carroll Suarez
------Gerrard Adam Henderson
Baines Dann Carragher Johnson
-------------------Reina

Maybe the "2nd team / reserve optios" will be something like this:

----------Pacheco Kuyt
Maxi Lucas Spearing Meireles
Aurelio Agger Skrtel Kelly
-----------------Doni

Being able to switch to:

------Maxi Pacheco Kuyt
---Lucas Spearing Meireles
---Aurelio Agger Skrtel Kelly
-----------------Doni

P.S. And we'd obviously have to pull off the unlikely coup of Baines... but replace him with whatever LB we will sign.

You haven't mentioned what subs you'd bring on. Ryan is very particular about deciding what subs to bring on. Don't forget to mention what time they should be brought on.
