AAAAAAAAAAAARGHHH!!!!!!

HULK SMASH!

--------

Love the celebration.

When did his arms get so big?

Well done to the lad. Statistically his best senior season with 4 goals and 5 assists across all competitions (league: 3 and 3 in 9 starts and 14 sub appearances). His previous best was 3 and 5 (league: 3 and 4) in 37 starts for Sunderland.

Enrique joins him in having career-best stats (attacking), with 2 goals and 5 assists (league: 2 and 4 in 19 starts and 3 sub appearances).

Given his physical stature now, I can't work out why Rodgers hasn't tried him in defensive midfield.

True. But he has no future there given the youth players coming through in that position. Martin Kelly is clever in that respect, and is talking up his physical attributes to move into CB and secure his future at the club. If Henderson was more Bruce Banner than Hulk, he'd do the same to start angling for a move into DM.

You do have a point. He plays as a deep lying midfielder for the U21s and does it quite well.
I do think his hard work and tenacity on the pitch would make him a decent candidate for that position.

Like you said, considering that we have Suso, Shelvey and Teixeira on the fringes, just waiting to break into the starting line up, it would be a smart move.
Don't forget Eriksen and Alonso.

So many midfielders *faints*

I think hendo is going to a decent player in years to come..

People forget he is still only young.. If he keeps improving at the rate he has done this season.. he is going to be a cracking option for us..

Henderson is great, I made a thread saying so about 3 months ago, and over those months he's gone on to prove he is. Hes one of my favourite players because he always tries 100% and shows his passion. I hope he stays with us for many seasons.

He's not proved he's great by any meaning of the word.

He's proved that he can justify half of his price tag. When he does it consistently and become a match winner more often, then he's great.

Nah hes been great. In midfield, only Gerrards played better this season.
And that means fuck all

Because lucas, Allen, shelvey, Sahin etc have all been average/poor, that means Henderson has been great?

Nah. No dice

True, and besides, it's not like Gerrard's been a model of consistency this season either.

He was brutal in many of our games in the first half of the season.

He's been excellant in the last 10 games or so I've seen him play. If nothing else he is showing a real will to succeed and improve on the pitch which with his obvious ability should be enough for him to make at Liverpool long term.
Another fantastic goal and boss celebration

Hmm, we agree!

Compare Henderson's similar chance when he first joined us to his goal on Saturday, it's clear to see how much more confident he is now

vs

I've just noticed, Coutinho looks a little scared of Henderson as he comes over. Oh and John Motson is a grade a cunt.

I'd hazard a guess that it's cos an enhanced physical stature has completely fuck all to do with being a decent defensive midfielder.

Perhaps you're getting confused with the typical defensive midfielder who protects a back four, so needs to run around like Mascherano or intercep passes like Hamann. Unfortunately we don't really have a back four under Rodgers. Instead we have a gaping hold in front of Reina. This is why our defensive midfielder needs the physical stature to block off that hole and head away any long balls. Otherwise you end up having to create a greater number of chances in each game that the number of times Lucas gets shoved aside / gives away a foul in fear of getting shoved aside.

Is anyone still annoyed that we got rid of Meireles and signed Henderson?

Meireles was a very good player but a bit of a luxury. Long term it might prove a good move (you know I'm a big Hendo fan and have backed him from the word go), but at the time it was met with derision fairly I think, it cost us because we were struggling for goals for the rest of that season, the midfield had zero movement. Longterm and with a degree of hindsight, we've built well in recent years, but for a spell it cost us and we're still feeling the repercussions of that now with a lack of experience, only in recent months have we had a few young players 'showing' they are capable of stepping upto the plate, we'd gone a whole 18 months were we were struggling to keep our heads above water.
