Reports during the festive period had suggested that the Japanese international had agreed a verbal agreement to join Liverpool, a rumour that the player’s representative was eager to clear up.
“No there is no truth in that rumour.†Kees Ploegsma explained to Sport.co.uk.
“There is constant speculation surrounding Liverpool, but the real situation is that there is only interest from them, and they have not made a firm offer.â€
Ploegsma admitted that his client was keen to push through a move to Anfield.
“If he could move to a club like Liverpool it would be great, but the two clubs must come to an agreement first. The Premier League is a great competition which he would like to play in.â€
Honda’s representative also hinted that Liverpool’s current situation on and off the pitch was slowing down any possible transfer for the Japanese international.
“I don’t know what the situation is at Liverpool.†Ploegsma continued.
“Is the manager staying? Are the new owners going to invest as they are struggling in the league? All I know is we have no formal offer, and we have the rest of the window to see what materialises.â€
