Just been lying on my back with chronic back issues. So I was feeling sorry for myself, Found this on Youtube. What a fucking player he was/is! How's he doing at Barca? He's probably the only ex Red that I still love to bits - Enjoy. 🙂

Thought I'd share the fucking aweness with him (and you all) x

He was brilliant at Liverpool and has carried that form on (and surpassed it) at Barca.

Truly brilliant footballer, at the peak of his powers, and in with a genuine shout of being the best in world right now.

BUT.

Suarez gets far too much of an easy ride for me. He forced the move to Barca and would have jumped at the chance to join Arsenal had the bid been accepted. I don't really understand why other footballers such as Torres, Mascherano, Owen, McManaman, Sterling, get such shit for the way they left (some of them in equally forceful ways) but Suarez doesn't. That's even before you add in all the controversy he caused whilst he was still at the club. Is it just because of how close we came to winning the league that year?

That's partly it. There's also the fact that Suarez was never dishonest about his intentions (unlike McMoneyman and Owen), never ever downed tools (unlike McMoneyman and Torres) and never descended to the kind of Aidy Ward-inspired guttersnipe tactics that Sterling used to get away.

Because he is better at football than all of them....and its not even close.

Better at football for us?

Whilst all of that is true, none of those players were ever banned for their behaviour and spent so long out like Suarez did either.

Don't forget, when Liverpool signed him he was actually coming to the end of an eight game ban for biting in the Dutch league.

That's also true. I guess it comes down to two things, namely (a) how much damage one thinks each player did to the club and (b) one's own personal reaction to each of the players concerned. As far as (a) goes, I'm quite clear in my own mind that, while Suarez was clearly no saint, ultimately his actions did nowhere near as much damage to LFC as those others did, especially when you consider how close he dragged us to our first title in far too long. In terms of (b) I suspect you find him less personally likeable than many of us, including me, do and did, which is fair enough on its own terms but not the most objective of criteria.

Just asking...why did they do goals/games and then goal/games ratio....did they run out of things to put in the table?

It's not just about goals. Suarez was a hell of lot more complete. If he had the Gerrard that Torres had, we would have walked the league every season. I'm not even thinking about the rest of the great supporting cast that Torres had.

Completely understand and respect your point of view, Jules. With regards to your final point; I actually have/had no dislike towards Suarez at all. I thought he was a great player, genuinely pleased that we signed him and I think he was perhaps the biggest factor in us coming as close as we did that year.

I just find it odd that given his misdemeanours and the way he forced his move (he didn't down tools but I remember a lot of yacking to the Uruguayan press) that he is still universally (almost) loved by the fan base, especially as he was only here for a relatively short while and his next team was the one that has benefitted from his best playing days.

Contrast that to say Torres and Owen who had their best form for us and were held in the same regard as Suarez when they were here, but get so much bad feeling directed towards them because of the way they left. Owen I can understand because of the other club he played for, but Torres clearly felt that the club had let him down and I don't see his move as being that vastly different to Suarez.

Add to that the fact that time seems to have done absolutely nothing to heal any wounds, ha. You'd think Suarez would be the rawest - nope.

No idea why they did that. But hey ho. Tough to argue with the numbers though, judging them both as strikers; Torres looks the more impressive in his time with Liverpool. So may be it is a question of perception.

Suarez may be complete, but because of his disciplinary record he never played a 'complete' season for Liverpool.

Hey, maybe we'd have won the league in 13/14 if Suarez hadn't have been banned - his goals could have won points against Swansea and Southampton (yes, my tongue is in my cheek here!) 😛

He was great when he was here but I for one couldn't give a hairy shit about him now. He couldn't wait to get away from us and he did sulk when he didn't get his move to Arsenal - fuck him.

The Arsenal bid:

Arsenal put in a bid that they thought would trigger his release clause. It was a silly and ill-thought bid (as reported by the media) that was rebuffed with a bit of chest pounding by Henry.

Did Suarez' desire to leave get lost in this? Was it the disbelief and then vitriol directed at Arsenal's derisory bid that drowned out the fact he wanted out?

The Barca bid:

Having agitated for a move in the summer and being blocked, Suarez very graciously agreed to stay for another year and play in return for an increase in wages and (likely) a promise of a move the following summer. Liverpool finished second, driven on by Suarez when he returned from his ban. Suarez had earned his move.

Barca came in with a £75m/£65m bid and Suarez left. If he hadn't, we would have faced having a world class player on the books banned for almost all of the following season.

Did the title tilt and the fact that he stayed mask the fact that he was still very much out of the door before kicking a ball that season? Did it also mask the fact that his behaviour had really got no better?

Suarez benefited a little from the fact that Torres left us all in a state of being able to love unconditionally again. Torres' departure also came during a time we were transitioning between believing we could still get back to the top and realizing that we were actually headed in the other direction. That and the fact that he went to an English club who in the last few years we'd developed quite a toxic rivalry with.

By the time Suarez came along we all knew the score - there were no illusions so we could just enjoy the ride without all the emotional baggage.

Quite.

Suarez was our rebound shag, and it blew our fucking minds

Do you think he also benefitted from Andy Carroll? In the same way that Balotelli "benefitted" from being Suarez' replacement? Ha.

Heh, nah, Carroll made us a bit of a laughing stock for a while and then he was gone and forgotten about. I forget he even played for us to be honest but that's just me.

hes no Iago Aspas thats for sure

Apart from being arguable the best player to ever play for us, he was arguably the hardest worker and easily the hardest working striker which is a trait every single fan loves and why Kuyt was loved so much.
It's usually the average footballers in terms of ability you expect to work hard for their lack of talent. You can almost forgive truly gifted players for not working hard defensively, Ronaldo is the perfect example, so when you get someone as good as Suarez and he works harder than a Kuyt or a Gerrard it blows your fucking mind. It's like girl you shagged for a while that ticked every single box. You'll always look back on her fondly even if she did fuck off

Maybe we're trying to find the next Suarez...

Agustín Dávila is a three time golden boot winner in Uruguayan u14, u15 and u17 leagues, scoring over 100 goals in Peñarol youth teams.

Penarol attacker, Agustín Dávila (17) is heading to Liverpool for a trial tomorrow. Dávila is regarded as the most talented u18 in Uruguay.

Except that Torres was at his best for us in at the start and Suarez at his 'worst'. I wonder what the last 50 game comparison would show......

Dreamy

Spot on - that's why we all loved him then and even love him now and to be honest in these days when you see a talented player work and show the level of determination in each game like the way he did - you can forgive him for all the problems he caused. If our team now had just 2 players with his will and desire without having to have Klopp constantly drill it into them - we would win the title this season without any doubt. Suarez is a rare freak of nature - hardly gets injured and just relishes the challenge. I miss him so much and is one of the reasons I just cannot watch Barca these days.
