She’s ok, but shaken. As all the kids are, I’m sure. After hours of not knowing if our kids were safe or anything about the situation, and watching SWAT parading around like fucking stormtroopers, they got released from lockdown. Turns out it was a hoax.

Lemme tell yiz… It’s not a hoax when you’re living it and don’t yet know it’s a hoax.

Fuck this festering carcass of a country.
 
Glad everyone’s safe - can only begin to imagine the stress.
 
Glad Alex is OK. When I was at the club, the FSG people were based in Florida (Boca Raton) and the daughter of one of the finance team was at Parkland the day they had the shooter there. Can’t imagine what he and his daughter went through that day, but thankfully she was OK.

Earlier in the year my daughters school went into lockdown because a kid went into school with a kitchen knife. Couple of teachers ended up with knife injuries. One stabbed, the other grabbing the blade.

Luckily my daughter wasn't anywhere near it, or it would have been a struggle to get her back into school.

Hopefully your school/college is offering counselling for those affected by the hoax.

Strange world we live in these days.

I can't imagine the stress and strain your daughter, the other children and your family have gone through. Take care.
 
Horrendous man, hard to imagine the terror both for the kids and for their loved ones.

There has been an average of 12 shooting incidents per month at schools in the U.S., which makes it a good year. In 2020-1 there was an average of 27 per month. But there's no problem with the gun laws. It beggars belief.
 
Absolutely awful. Hope your daughter is able to mentally recover from it.

Crazy to think that fishing rods in the UK are better regulated than guns in the US.

I can't imagine the level of stress and anxiety that has caused. Glad they're safe and sound.

Without kicking up a huge debate, there's so many guns in circulation already that any changes in gun laws, which would hugely be welcomed, are largely sticking a plaster on the sinking Titanic. Whatever stats are looked at, all would agree there are more than one gun per person, and they're the ones known about and registered. It's as much a mental health/identification of risk issue as anything else because if a nutjob wants to shoot up a school, or cinema, or whatever, the chances are they will be able to find the means to do so pretty damn quickly regardless of whatever laws get passed.

I see some of the security measures schools need to take and it's just sickening that kids, parents and teachers always need to have this threat in the back of their mind. Even if nothing ever happens, living with that on the daily has to be damaging.

I hope Ngumohas winner at least managed to put a smile on your face on a what sounds a very shitty day.
 
God, what a harrowing experience. Wishing you all a peaceful few days…a few hours in Nature might help you all re regulate a little…
 
US politicians are some of the most fucked up people in the world...Look what levels they go to combat Islamic Terrorism this despite it killing so few people in the US since 9/11 but the same very people will block any kind of gun control even though it kills 10s of thousands every year. Some of them want kids to take guns to schools so if a mass shooter came in they could take down the mass shooter.
Since the financial crisis the US economy has boomed as has Chinas, China invested in its infrastructure where as the US has given rich people tax breaks and cutting back on programmes that could combat poverty and gun crime
 
Sorry Derek. Brutal. I can't imagine. I'm losing faith in America by watching what that won't tolerate, and what they will.
 
Unreal dude, so pleased it turned out ok. Can't imagine the pain you must have been in yesterday. Unable to do anything to help the welfare of your child is so scary. Unbelievable that it's something that is accepted as a normal thing now, didn't even get on the news. You didn't miss much anyway. Sixteen year old shooter broke fifty thousand hearts, but it was rather joyful in comparison.

Yesterday was rough, even when it was over. The enormous fluctuations in emotions (and blood pressure) was insane. I was absolutely exhausted by 6pm, but couldn’t sleep until well after 3am.

Alex is better today, back to normal(ish).

She decided to not go to classes today, though. She feels better, knowing it was never a legitimate attack…. I’m glad, because she’s already an anxious kid, who worries about everything to begin with. I’ll be keeping an eye on that side of things with her for the next little while.

And, although football’s never mattered less than yesterday, I did enjoy watching the highlights, and especially the reactions last night…. It helped me to calm down.
 
That must have been agony waiting on news. Terrifying when your child is in (perceived or real) danger. Glad it turned out OK !
