Having not seen the pre-season games, but getting my hopes up on Aspas based on what I heard of him before arrival and his involvement in goals these last few weeks, I was disappointed to read from Makka that he's good around the goal but rubbish elsewhere. Not that that's the most damning indictment, but is it a fair early assessment? Could Aspas be a Coutinho-type bargain, or does his transfer fee seem about right for his ability?

Aspas job is to score goals, and he's got 3 in 3, so...I have no complaints.
He's done pretty well, but I'm not sure where Rodgers intend to play him.

His first touch looks a bit dodgy and his all round play has been hit and miss. But it's way to early to be judging him.

His stats are good, but something doesn't quite seem great about him, he's a bit like Dirk in that manner, who when you watched never seemed really exceptional, but there is no doubting that he was, just look at his stats. Like has been said, I hope he replaces Downing, however I honestly expect him to be our first sub.

His goal and assist yesterday were superb. Weak opposition, but both were superb. His movement is very good. His touch seems heavy at times - but he seems to retain possession anyway. So, not silky smooth like Coutinho, but certainly seems more effective that Dirk (who I really liked) and Downing (who I don't). I think when Sturridge is back, he will compete Raheem and Borini for starting minutes.

Let's bear in mind it's pre-season and judge him once he's got some games under his belt.

I reckon he looks good. Maybe that's because I've spent enough time watching that wanker Borini to know what a lower league striker really looks like.

Aspas already seems well better than him.

Without doubt, I think he'll be a solid player for us, but not a world beater, see Dirk.

You don't need great ball skills to be a great striker.
You just need intelligent movement, determination and bloody know where the goal is.

and that's what I said about Fabio Borini.

.

I'll take the goals. Already that's about 10 goals taken care of from Suarez tally. We just need another flair player to chip in 8-10 and we'll have replaced the little knacker.

He was in the right place the other day for Suarez cross.... you cant argue with that, it was a poachers position... the amount of times I saw Carroll play for example and he never took that position....

He's not rubbish elsewhere. Looks very promising imho. 3 goals and assist in 4 pre season games is better than we could have expected.

But, lets wait and see how he fares in the league when it gets serious. He'll surprise quite a few imho.

Seems Rogers has basically said the same seem thing:

"Sometimes he's not always easy on the eye but when you actually monitor how efficient he is - he creates goals and scores goals"

Which about sums up his contribution so far. Looking forward to the next 3 pre-season games to see if he can keep it up against better and more physical competition.

"Sometimes he's not always"?

I remember when we sold Torres, we thought here was no chance Suarez would come close. He did!
