Ibou

So … if he’s got the Madrid stuff out of his head and isn’t focussing on VVD’s salary. Should Hughes sanction a new contract?

I’d be okay with two years at a sensible whack to bridge the gap
last chat i heard was that madrid feel like they have an agreement with him and are annoyed that his agent is still putting his name around to other clubs. did you hear something different?

He's been noticeably better since he lost his Dad. Not sure if he was ill before that and it was maybe playing on his mind or if he's trying to do him proud. Either way, feels like we've got peak Ibou back, and peak Ibou is a player I'd like to keep hold of.

seems marca are reporting that the hungarian coach says it’s szobos dream to play for madrid.

i feel like jones from dads army panicking about every player that might leave but i also didn’t love his post match interview when they made comparison to gerrard. about the comparison he said something along the lines of gerrard is a liverpool legend i want to write my own story.

fine you can read it as simply being that he’s his own man but i was hoping he’d circle back with some lfc fan appeasement about hoping he could achieve nearly as much with the club but he didn’t. it just felt like he also rejected the idea of being at lfc long enough to be a legend or any desire to be that.

maybe i need to adopt a more que sera attitude to this season but it just feels like slot is exploding what we had one piece at a time.

It’s not a shock, he’s always had arrogance. Remember he was speaking about himself in third person Zlatan-style even before he’d joined us. The great thing about him is he shows none of that arrogance on the pitch and is one of the most selfless players for us. Hopefully we get him on a long term deal.

Maybe he is off too, then we can come on here to blame you know whom but we all know probably know without Klopp we probably are now unlikely to keep our best as ultimately most even on their best day are just likely to see us as step in the ladder.

This is the issue when we're such a yoyo side when it comes to success. This year we really needed to kick on and try and assert dominance over the league, but we didn't and have not really shown on the pitch that we wanted to

Others have committed in the same time lines when we had our ups and downs too even under Klopp, if they want to leave then that’s fine. I’m sure, as a club we would offer them the best offer we can regardless.

Contract should’ve been sorted in the summer at the latest, but our hillbilly clown of a SD spent 2 months chasing Isak and Guehi. Now he’s going to leave for nothing and we’ll have to eat into a significant part of our budget and spend another 60m on an experienced CB, who may not even turn out to be as good, and stick him on wages close to what Ibou would’ve wanted anyway. Genuinely fucking retarded stuff.

Latest from Real seem to be that they aren’t that interested. We seem to be hopeful of a new deal and we need it.

Wouldn’t be to worried about Rossi and his Szobo comments. Dom will sign a monster contract soon I reckon.

I think it's pretty obvious he's off. More than likely Real Madrid.

I assume whatever was going on with his dad was affecting him massively, and now that he's sadly passed, he's been able to get a bit of closure and focus on football again, hence the improved performances.

I never thought he was as bad as he's shown this season and I'd love him to sign and stay, but I think the writing has been on the wall for a while.

I feel for continuity we could really do with retaining him. We’ve recycled a lot of the squad in the last 3 years, and we could do with more stability from players entering the best years.
Agreed. And, if he truly had a big influence on Jacquet joining, maybe he sees a future here.

I don't necessarily agree. I don't think it's a done deal either way and I'm not really sure I know which way he's leaning.

Clearly his dad's health was affecting his play. And he's received a lot of support from his teammates and the club.

He's always said he's happy here and he'll have the chance to be the senior defender and leader among the backline shortly.

If we're willing to offer a decent wage commensurate with his experience and performance, I think he's as likely to stay as go.

Lol that makes it sound like you're just off the phone with them.
