Much as I love Dirk, Kenny has to start laying off the older players he has dropped Carra to back up, and Dirks the wrong side of 30 now, 10M plus would be fantastic buisiness, but I very much doubt he would commant that kind of fee.....

Tbh for who we could get for equal money I dunno if it'd be worth it.

But chances are we will need to replace him at some point soon anyway, so is it better to have an extra 10 million on top of what we already have in order to do so?

In reality I doubt we'll get anywhere near that for him at his age but for the purposes of the thread....

Nah fuck that.

He's a lifer.

Don't want to see him fucking about for stuttgart or valenica for a few seasons before he retires.

I'd rather he finished here

Keep him so long as he wants to stay unless he fancies one last challenge like Hyypia did. Same goes for Carra, Gerrard and Reina. The younger lads will learn loads from these top pros.

Sell and we lose some identity, lack leaders and become another Arsenal.

Keep them and let their know how helps others around like Ferguson has done at United with his senior long serving pros.

Kuyt is a model proffesional and a very good Liverpudlian. Even if he plays less he is worth keeping in the club. Like Sami would have been worth keeping a year or two longer than we did.

Yes, take it. We need to start being more ruthless at moving players on at the right time. It's what we used to do in the glory days, after all.

This, and add Kenny to the aforementioned list. His experience is invaluable, we won't get £10m so it's pointless selling for £6m or whatever. We've lacked a good mix of experienced old timers and young up and coming players for some time now.

*recalls "Goodfellas" thread, knowingly smug*

You have to know when to cut loose and rebuild, Shanks made the mistake once but soon learned from it.

Thats what Kenny just had to do with Carragher, he saw the better option (only through being forced on him to see due to the injury) but put sentiment aside for the good of the team.

Selling Dirk would be more of a release than just dropping Carra from first choice to backup, but there is no room for sentiment when the good of the club is at stake.

Shanks had to do it with longer serving players like Ian St. John and Big Ron Yeats the club captain, always think of the next step for the club .......

Just you haters wait til Andy Bell and Lion O' Hare get here.

Then you'll see.

THEN YOU'LL SEE !!

Exactly.

It all depends on finances really.

If we need to sell to buy, balance the books and all that it could be a good deal - providing we don't waste the money.

If we don't, then as Whitey said he's a good guy to have around and I'd keep him also.

The first assumption is likely to be more correct though.

Haha Themn he is far from hated, and is only 2 Derby goals away from leapfrogging Fowler (and a few other on 6) to become joint 5th top ever Derby goalscorer (alongside Beardsley who is there with goals for both teams), which I'd love him to get before he eventually does leave.

Could a sympathetic mod subtract my "no" vote and add it to the "FUCK OFF FUCK OFF !" option please ?

Thank youse x

The Dirkilizer is a legend. But for 10m I wouldn't even think twice about it. The club comes before sentiment, and the fact is that Dirk's form is more variable than it has ever been. He will always give 100% effort, and he will have runs of games where he plays a big part, and scores goals. He's had a dreadful few months, and whilst I'd back him to find better form during the season, I think we do need to think about a replacement. To get the amount we paid for him after 5 years service is a no brainer. Sorry Dirk.

I read an interview that we wont be dipping into the transfer window in jan (kenny's words). is this a case of the yanks saying we've given you plenty (£100m)? if they are pulling in their purse strings then any money for kuyt could go towards an attacking midfielder. heresy I know.
