An idea has crossed my mind a few times, a naughty one, as it is as impossible as it is bold, but I would still like to hear your stance on the matter:

Would you, If given the opportunity, spend our entire Summer transfer kitty on two players only if those were Kylian M'bappe and Kasper Dolberg?

I mean, yeah obviously we need squad depth, we need a LB we need a central defender and probably also a few midfielders. But given the circumstances we'd probably not be able to buy anyone else should we break all our records and sign these wonderkids, unless we sell first.
£100M seems more and more likely for M'bappe knowing his suitors and his pure awesomeness.
Dolberg won't come cheap either, in the region of £30M - £40M should do the trick. For the sake of it, let's just say that's about £150M for the two or thereabouts (incl. sign-on fees and everything).

So would you do it?

I'd take that deal without blinking an eye..

Yeah, we'd then might have to endure another season with some stop gap solutions and some not-quite-top-standard players out there from time to time, but on the other hand we'd have two of the arguably hottest teenage-sensations in our squad that would add goals galore and extreme amounts of talents to the team. As well as hype.

So take a deep breath and look at this line-up... just, look at it.. stare it straight in the eye even, if you dare.

.....................Can......................Wini..............................

...............................Coutinho.........................................

Mané................................................................M'bappe

................................Dolberg...........................................

And what about the subs: Henderson, Lallana, Firmino, Sturridge (I've decided I now want him to stay after his performance - and attitude - against West Ham) + youngsters.

PS Whatever additional funds you could raise from sales would also be made available for your kitty, meaning that Sakho, Origi et all could be swapped to say van Dijk and then we are talking 'King of the Hill' material in terms of squad quality.

Absolutely not. No way should we put all our eggs in one basket like that. Even if half of them are Danish. 😉

Ha ha fair play..

I know it would be totally risky to add only two players, especially as they are so young, but given how Klopp has actually managed to put a season together with our current team (and it's many flaws) I'd be really tempted to see what would happen if you added a few major talents to the mix.

The fact that both of M'bappe and Dolberg in their own ways are such unique talents, both in terms of sheer ability but also their impact, just makes it all the more tempting.

We have too many holes and no squad depth.
Our bench has been full of kids all season while Chelsea, United, Arsenal, City et al have had Fabregas, Terry, Bathsuyi, Mata, Young, Martial, Walcott, Giroud, Ihenacho, Toure etc on theirs.
And thats without Europe.
And without player sales.

What we NEED is a DM, CB and CF who walk into the team.
And a LB, RB, CB, CM, WF, AM to challenge those we have.

If it was 3 players MAYBEEEEEEE.
As long as they were hot poo

If they were dead certain to join, then yes. But it is so incredibly hypothetical it is almost painful to see the realists enter the thread.

..they probably needed a little refreshment after having spend most of their day in the 'Andrew Robertson our new left back' thread..

Yes. Add them two and our squad would still be stronger than Monaco (the Champs League Semi-finalists), for instance.

But of course will never happen!

Dolberg a wonderkid??? Haha, come on K A E, he's not bad, but not £50m+. Mbappe is and will be the better player as are a few of those other Monaco players, Silva and Lemar

If we signed Mbappe for £100 million and had another £30-40-50 million there's no chance in hell I would be spending it on Dolberg, regardless of whether or not I had to spend it on just one more player.

I have nothing to add to this thread yet, but I did just want to comment on the amusing fact that a guys username that was chosen to phonetically spell out his old abbreviated user name is now being referred to as an abbreviation of that new creation. I feel like we've gone full circle here.

Wonderkid or not here's a few stats for you:

Luis Suarez, when first arriving in Holland, hit the following numbers:

2006/07 (Groningen): 14 goals / 36 games (7 assists)
2007/08 (Ajax): 22 goals / 43 games (14 assists)

The Uruguayan were 20-year-old in his first Season for Ajax, Dolberg in comparison was 18 at the start of the current season, and his numbers look like this (with an Europa League Final still to be played):

2016/2017 (Ajax): 23 goals / 46 games (7 assists)

People argue that the state of the Eredivisie is worse than compared to earlier years, which might be true, however, it's still pretty rare for a Dutch team to go all the way to an European final as this current Ajax team has achieved.

Dolberg has scored 7 goals in Europe so far, seven of which he scored two in the Semi-finals against Lyon.

M'bappe aside I don't think you'll find many teenagers out there with such an impressive first season to his name.

I love the idea of signing a couple of wonderkids (good ones this time) but our squad isn't in a good enough place to go all in on one hand this summer.

Why can't we develop our own wonderkids.
Well, hopefully we try, however it's not that simple.

First of all you really need to identify the right youngsters (if they are not born just down Anfield Road) to bring in, and that is no easy feat, and then you need lacy luck on your side as well. We could obv do a better job in our scouting department but even then there'd be no guarantees.

Consider how many 'wonderkids' we are introduced to each year around the world - a handful, perhaps ten - either way knowing how many clubs are out there all trying to be the ones succeeding here it's quite obvious why there'll be years between a new Gerrard or to a lesser extent an Owen or a Fowler type of player. Sterling came rather close I guess to that bracket, just not in the cards we'd then have to sell them on so soon.

Sterling and Suso...feels like it ages ago. One in City one in Milan, go figure.
Both bought by Rafa too.

Bothers me that our Danish scout somehow missed all these talents.
Best he did was Anger I guess.

Well, Dolberg will have a good opportunity to show us all how he cope with low bus parking teams with no interest of playing football in a week or so. So for those who bother can get first hand info on how he Plays against shit teams.
