It’s spiteful, but part of me finds it funny the ridiculous risks taken in the summer are being exposed. Not in an “I told you so” way, but in a 'Edwards, you were fucking here when we fucked up last time and relied on our keeper heading us into the Champions League spots' kinda way, and somehow that didn’t prompt any serious reflection or learning. There comes a point where I can park the frustration and sympathy I have for the players and the club and just accept that outright stupidity and an inability to learn from history deserve to be called out. It’s the same logic as the US getting Trump, or us getting Brexit. At some stage, you just get what you fucking deserve and need to suck it up.
I would argue that it was even a bigger risk this time around, given the spending in the summer, the pressure put on the books, and the further growth of CL money compared to elsewhere. We'll probably be alright, but mostly because all teams below Villa can't put any winning run together. However, if one or two more get injured, the potential is there for us to drop like a stone. Hell, we were capable of doing that with a fit squad.
