Job security - arne

Are we going backwards? Yes
Is there any evidence that he can sort it? No

This only ends one way.

The good news is noone likes him as a human so it won't hurt.
I didn’t like him before we started but I like him since. He’s conducted himself very well for 16 out of 17 months.

Crazy how many people are biting at Dreamy’s trolling here. He’s clearly on a wind up. Don’t feed the fire.

I’m sure dreamy might watch us, but it smacks of only looking at results and not watching how our team actually plays.
Ha I would say I actually watch more of us live and in a higher quality than just about everyone one on here.

The joys of living in Australia I get every game live in 4K.

Fucking feels like the whole place is on a wind up. Fucking forget YNWA, pitch forks at dawn from everyone.

God help whoever comes next.

I see Dreamy is still the site contrarian.

Some of this might be knee jerk from some people. However, for me personally, and I'd suggest the majority, we're looking at the bigger picture. It's not short term thinking. We've been fucking shite for the best part of a year. It's looking increasingly likely that he's been found out and has no answer for it.

Or maybe just maybe we brought in a truck load of new players half of which are injured and our big players from last season are injured or terribly off form.
He deserves time to show us which one is true.

If we get knocked out of the Carling cup, I think the job threat level will be raised to maximum.

That doesn't explain why we were shit from March until the end of the season.

He's responsible for the form of his players.

Try again.

Every man and his dog predicted a massive decline and rebuild job post Klopp. We are effectively 4 months into that and cunts want to fire the man who gave us a title and was the reason some of these world class players signed for us. The shortsightedness is beyond baffling.

Dreamy how about this. Lay out a few things here to support your long sightedness

- what is the system & set of tactics that Arne is implementing
- how do the players he signed support this
- what are your top 3 reasons he’s going to make his own team title challenge.

Almost none of our players are in form. The two big bright spots? Szobo and ekitike, the former played out of position, the other dropped for isak. It's almost as though they both had a point to prove and competition. See also Jones and Robbo.

The players most out of form have started regardless of how fucking shit they are, and if anything they've been more shit.

That's just the very basic man management part. The other part is no one looks good on this team because we don't appear to have any fucking clue what we are supposed to be doing.

He's been riding on Klopp's success and it's getting thin. He's got nothing to offer. Last night were the nails being smashed into the coffin.

I like how we are having a problem with a particular kind of play and that his description of that play is basically the bread and butter, do not pass go tool tip for what the style of the premier league is.

Imagine if VVD isn't in this team. It sends a shiver.

You still have not responded to the question I posed.

I don't currently and have never disliked Slot. I found him funny and charming until lately.

Many of the players last season said overwhelmingly positive things about him, almost to the point where I felt they were slighting Klopp.

So this doesn't need to be about Slot as a person.

This is about his performance in the role. While I didn't like how we completely took our foot off the gas after clinching the title last season - or were gormless in the knockout tournaments - to a certain extent I understood, even though I was concerned.

But we've carried that form into this season, other teams have adjusted, we have no clear style of play, and we've spent the family jewels trying to rebuild the side and look worse for it.

So, his performance should absolutely be under scrutiny. His job will soon be at threat. And I worry the wheels have come off entirely.

But it shouldn't have anything to do with "liking" him.

I don't think the timing of the Ibiza thing helped his cause, it definitely smacked of disrespect and didn't look good.

No it shouldn't and it won't, it'll just make the inevitable more palatable. He hasn't made any friends so he won't be missed.

Slot learned from Coutinho that his system didn’t work with a flair player in the midfield.

I don’t think he’d have the line up looking that different. He also never dropped Mo.

I think he’d make the midfield more robust and demand more from the full backs. I’m not sure he’d play Isak, he saw with Darwin that his approach didn’t work with a CF. Ekitike is more like Firmino (good touch, hold up play, unselfish) than Isak.

I think it’s a pointless comparison, as Klopp doesn’t have the energy, passion or fight to turn around the mentality of this squad.
I think Klopp has recharged his batteries and has another 5 years in him now. He's done the pit stop.

I also think if he came back he'd make have to make tough, unemotional decisions. One of which would be to move on from a 34 year old Mo, and possibly VVD.

The problem is determining whether players are failing because of the system/boss or vice versa.

* We have no style of play
* We are completely unbalanced
* The manager has clear agendas and bias over certain players (Endo, Chiesa, Elliott, Quansah, Salah)
* The manager is being stubborn and refusing to adjust, while shirking big decisions.
* He's already in "blame" mode, instead of blaming himself and taking the heat off the players.
* He won't try to investigate if dropping Salah in the Prem has a positive effect, it'll be forced on him during AFCON, but it'll be too late.
* He's arrogant and already seems in "been there, done it" mode.

There’s a million and one reasons why he should be sacked and fucked off to Dubai/Ibiza wherever he wants to go, on a permanent basis.

There is no such thing as patience in football, when we lose our next 4 games (and we will)…this man is done.

I just don't understand our purchases this summer. I didn't understand them at the time, because I didn't understand how they'd operate together without opening the team up way too much. Now I understand them even less.

It's not even about whether any of them are good.

I think slot should be doing much better. But I think if he were, he would be pissing off hundreds of millions of talent and investment for games on end. That seems very much not moneyballing.

I had concerns, but they were more "vibes" than about actual tactical thinking and facts.

Whenever everyone applauds a club for winning the transfer window by making obvious decisions, I feel it often ends up not being as good. When Sky Sports pundits are applauding your choices, you are most likely making the wrong decisions. I also felt the signings were a bit too obvious. Kinda reminded me of the Caroll, Downing window. We are at our best when we are out of the box - Mane, Salah, Robertson, Coutinho.

We are a middle-class club. Even if we win 10 CL in a row, we will remain a middle-class club. We are at our best when we identify players just below the radar of Madrid, Barcelona, and Chelsea. Our best could dance, had technique and fire, and would bravely go into a street fight in Toxteth. I wouldn't want to fight with Robertson, Mane, Suarez, 2007 Torres, and 2016-2019 Salah. When we went big - Van Dijk, Allison - similar profile. I am betting both of them would flatten everyone who came up to them, and then Van Dijk would put on his favorite fruity hair spray, and Allison would continue preaching the value of nonviolence.

I spent the Spring talking about value multipliers. Those are our best signings. When we went into this "only players who would improve us are the players Madrid, Bayern, Chelsea would target", we ended up not being that good. Thiago, Caicedo, and Tchouameni are all a waste of our efforts, or did not quite elevate us as we would have liked. We rectified that for midfield by going back to what we do best. We may be worth 10 billion dollars, but we are scrappy, mischievous streetfighters who look up to every challenge in front of us, however overwhelming, and say f** you and wade into the fight. We need that in our signings. Our fans have a sixth sense for that.

I don't watch many non-Liverpool games, so I don't know much about our signings. But I did watch a Netherlands game and a Leverkusen game, and posted here in Spring that I hoped we wouldn't go for Frimpong. I didn't quite get how he would survive in the PL.

I will admit I was caught up in the euphoria of spending half a billion and surfed that wave over the summer. There was this "where is the pace and physicality" warning sign flashing at the back of my mind, but I chose not to ponder over that.

Agree with all of that, other than the idea that we're a middle class club. We are a very wealthy club, just not quite at the very top.

More Bill Foley than Bill Gates. We have enormous resources. But we do indeed have to punch above our weight to compete at the very top end of the table.

Good analysis. I could deal with the disjointed performances if I felt they were teething pains as we adapted to a style. (Say what you want about Amorim's stubbornness and whether his tactics are suitable for England, but there's a clear identity he's trying to get United to play.)

But I haven't a clue what we are attempting to do and it seems from week to week as though we are throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.

I'd like to see Slot take heat off the players onto himself, focus on making us difficult to beat, and light a fire under the players so there is no question of their compete level.

Do these things and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and lengthen the leash a bit.

That’s a great post. I wonder why so many record signings don’t work out - whether it’s added pressure or expectations or a different profile of player/career stage. I also had the gnawing concern that playing at the top strata of the market competing against Madrid and Barca is possibly not what we should be doing.
