We don't know what's gone on behind the scenes but unless Slot is blanking him / calling out / whatever else, sitting on the bench for 3 games - one of which he got 45mins - is not scapegoating.

But either which way, is the manager not entitled to try something new for a couple games? Should there be a list of options that we run through before Mo gets some bench time? Or should Slot run things past Mo first? Why not make Mo the player/manager and be done with it?

Kerkez and Mac have both played in 14 of 15 PL games, two as a sub. Gakpo has played in every game, two as a sub. All three have been very poor but still play week in week out. Why hasn't Slot 'tried something different' with them?

Since he arrived Slot has played Isak to get him match fit. Even though it was like playing with ten men, he still played him the following game. Konate has been embarrassing but played every game.

Its that inconsistency that gets me. I agree Mo has been dire, but so has everyone bar Szobo! Mo has still been creating chances, its not like he's been as unproductive as Isak, or Wirtz, who have delivered very little.

If nothing else, I think this shows that Slot doesn't command much respect. Imo Mo wouldn't be turning up to training smiling if he'd spoken like that about any of our previous manager. Even Hodgson would have set him straight.

Imo the biggest differences in performance between this year and last are that Mo isn't nicking us games (possibly because there's no consistency at RB and everything is going through the unimpressive Wirtz) and Konates form (because he doesn't have any competition after flogging Quansah and not getting in Guehi, as well as him running down his contract).

Bbc stats say we should have three more 'expected' points and be in third. I'm not buying that as we were lucky in those first few games. I bet the data nerds lap it up though as confirms their own optimism bias in their own decision making.

I don't get the notion Pens are worth less. Pen's require a certain kind of mentality to step and take, plenty don't want it and are no good at it. Ask Nunez on his pentalty record with LFC, a pen requires time to think and a plan and not just reaction. Would have been nice if we had few pen takers against PSG in that second leg.

I think disrepecting the club and Shankley Statue is being smashed by Forest and PSV at home by over 3 goals consecuctive games and putting out a crappy side against Palace at home by 3 goals, that is embaressing for ticket paying fans. Imo Suarez racism (and the tshirts) and the biting incidents brought more shame on the shirt. Gerrard, Torres, Suarez, Coutinho, Owen, Macca flirting with other clubs feels way more of a betrayal.

We could argue who's been worse and the reasons for persisting with player X vs player Y but ultimately, is it not at the discretion of the manager how he decides to line up and in our case, fix things? Or are we back to him having to justify himself to Salah and go through a laundry list of things that he's tried before arriving at his door?
