Job security - arne

Seriously though, it's about having multiple threats. City had DeBruyne who could pick a pass and shoot. Silva, and Bruno who could play in tight spaces and find players in the box. Haaland in the box. Gundogan who made smart runs into the box.

Our pass around shit and Gakpo cutting in and shooting, ain't it.
However, with Ekitike and Wirtz it's looking a bit better. But we need more from Macca. More shoots from Szobo and most importantly better players on the wings.

So get better threats than Wirtz, Salah, Isak, Etitike, MacAllister etc etc?

we’re struggling with width and pace atm, you can see the impact frimpong makes just by possessing those abilities.

in general though i think we have the attacking players to break down these deep lying teams a lot of the time.

but what we don’t seem to have anymore is the capability to box the opposition into their own defensive third for 90% of the game and deny them any meaningful opportunities. how many klopp games can you remember with the matip and virgil standing around the halfway line most of the match with us absolutely strangling the other team slowly? maybe it’s because virgil was invincible back then and we had an incredibly hard working midfield that included a proper dm? i’m not sure what’s going on but we seem very easy to counter and attack in general.

The Salah I've seen this season isn't good enough and we've barely seen Isak.

So yeah, we need better players on the wings.

Discounting Isak as he's not a winger leaves Salah. I wouldn't disagree with a replacement but whom?

We do have Frimpong, so?

Semenyo chose City (assuming we actually enquired) so alternative is required.

Frimpong is another Riise. Something between a fullback and winger.

I honestly can't name a winger right now that I'm 100% sure of.
We missed out on Kvara, who would have been perfect.
Nico Williams or Oliseh, that's basically it. Maybe that Turkish kid from Juve too.

imo we should’ve been in for doku and semenyo, maybe we were but ultimately seems like it was pretty easy for city.

olise ditto, not sure how bayern got that done seemingly without a fight. i do understand not landing the georgian, im sure he’s on crazy money.

even pedro neto might have been a decent signing, although i’m not sure how exactly chelsea have cured him

Barcola

Stalling on a new contract offer from PSG, and wants a move to the PL

Can play LW/RW

You'd play a front three of Ekitike-Wirtz-Barcola. All interchangeable, and now with genuine pace

Rio-Isak-Frimpong as the rotation options

Barcola would be a fantastic signing. He'd mainly be our LW I imagine. We also seem very interested in Olise but that would be for the RW spot. I'm guessing Salah leaves this summer.

We're always just late. When is the last time we had two players in a position, one up and coming, the other just declining.

We didn't deal with our entire midfield that way. We didn't deal with left back, even after Tsimikas clearly wasn't going to be the replacement, and Robbo clearly couldn't do it all the time anymore. We are late at CB, going for a player 3 years younger than Quansah who was already young. Salah has looked incapable of the workload across a season for years but we've got no succession plan. We had a nice fruitful situation at LW last season, and largely destroyed that.

I genuinely don't understand what the fuck we are thinking. And that's why we had to do a lot of business at once. It's like we are a student that gets behind on work, does a heroic amount of effort, and then starts hitting the bong for a few weeks.

There seems to be a huge scarcity of left footed right wingers. There's no way we can get Olise, so I assume Barcola or Diomande will be expected to cover the right wing as well.

Though there might not be a need if we are going 3-4-3 next season......

Good point. Anyone in the "Bring Alonso in" camp needs to reckon with that. I'm not necessarily against it BTW but that's a major change we'd have to get used to if we do go in that direction.
