Just thought I'd pass on a snippet from a mate of mine based in London, a fanatical Spurs fan with friends inside the club.

He's told me that Joe Cole has turned down the chance to join Spurs (they were willing to pay him the equivalent of 80-90k a week) and is favouring a move to Liverpool. Hodgson has made it a priority to sign him and is indicating he will be nigh on guaranteed a first team place.

I would be surprised. He used to play for 'Arry at West Ham, has always played in london and I'd have thought he'd want to play in the CL.

I'd be delighted if we got him though.

So would I, not only because of Cole's quality but also because of the message it would send out, namely that at least one top player with a fair bit of his career left sees us as a better long-term prospect than Tottenham despite what happened in the league last season. I'd also be very glad not to see him lining up against us, as he's put the skids under us a time or two in the past. I'd be a shade less surprised than you though, as he's been very complimentary about LFC at times when doing media work.
