Joel Ordóñez
- Club Brugge
- 21 y/o
- center back
+ in possession: high responsibility of touches in build up which is a great leading indicator for a young CB, passing looks 'fine' to the eye test considering time/space offered by playing for the best team in Belgium, looked a little less accurate in the UCL against Arsenal/Bayern/Barca but my eye test is eh at best; strong ball carrier - more of a ground eater than super penetrative runner; a threat from corners (at least in Belgium)
+ out of possession: aerial duel data on the graph is fake imo - he looks well better when you watch him... good base/box out beforehand and times leaps well, Wyscout has aerial duel success rates as 53-55% for the past two seasons, FBRef (Opta) has 52% for last year and 67% for this year, so could just be a sample size/ criteria difference; strong dueler on the ground (both in the sense of success rate and that he wins with strength), does well to get a foot in when face up, but really really likes to step out of the back line, and sometimes can be caught by laterally quick wingers (thinking of a specific instance Gabriel Jesus turned him in the UCL match)
+ zoomed out thoughts: lots to love about Ordóñez... all around robust dueler, carrying ability, involvement in build up at a young age; I think he profiles best as an RCB in a back 4, but could do something like an Arteta FB/CB hybrid (Hincapie, Timber, etc); think he's ready to make the jump to the next level, if not as an immediate starter, someone that will become one in short order, and the rumored fee is somewhere between fair and excellent for buying clubs considering the current market
