Jota - worse than Nunez?

Nunez has 14 GAs and Jota has 13 - The big issue is the injuries, it looks like they're getting to him judging this years performance. Nunez id frustrating and squanders so many chances but he is available and his output on a per minute basis isn't that different from Jota's. Slot has decided Nunez isn't a player that fits his system. If we are to compete again we need a fit and firing Jota, can anyone guarantee he will be worth his place next season?

Jota is perhaps the best out-and-out finisher this club has had since Fowler. Unfortunately he's a proven sicknote who can't be relied on to stay fit and firing for enough of the season to be a regular. I'd be willing to keep him as a squaddie but we need a more consistently fit first choice no.9.

I’d have Torres & Sturridge ahead of Jota as out and out finishers.

We can argue the toss over where he stand in the pantheon of Anfield finishers (he’s up there for raw ability)…but the bald fact is that injuries have taken their toll now and he’s not retaining the pace, aggression and availability we need from someone on our striker roster.

We have to replace him.

There's nothing between them TBH. What the stats do show though is that neither is as bad as we think they are in comparison to the vast majority of PL forwards, if you look at the percentiles.

NUNEZ

Has Slot come out straight with his decision on Nunez?

To put it bluntly, Jota is damaged goods and Darwin is surplus to requirements.

Both forwards have played just a 1/3 of the minutes of a league season, I think even Diaz has probably played longer as the #9 than either of them, so it's clear there needs to be a shake up.

Yeah that's what I said. Outside the top three they're all skint. We really need a shit PL club to take him but if he wants Spain I guess he holds the cards.

Spanish clubs need to match what the Saudis will pay for Darwin. None of this loan with option to buy stuff.

At least 45-50 mill.

We are spending close to £300m if we get all 4 players we are concretely linked to, its FSG and co's issue. If t happens we have improved the squad in all areas

Just based on the 2nd half of the season...

Jota is, slow and ponderous as he looks at times, he gets the chances in a crowded area, he's just not been converting them as much.

Nunez though, when we are pushing for a goal, you don't even know he exist most of the time. He doesn't even seem to know how to play with us. He tries and runs and chase back etc etc, but he needs to do the job upfront.

For that, I will bin Nunez for sure. If a good offer comes Jota can leave provided we replaced them.

It is FSG's issue, but with their business model, we are allowed very few mistakes. Paying to much for too little now will have ramifications down the road. This is why most of us now support waiting until we get the right fit.

Nunez has done half his contract so there'll be about 40m on the books. I guess we'll get about 20 for him so it's a loss of 20 in terms of FFP, so not all that bad. Mind you I'm using second hand beamridernomics in my head so take what I'm saying at your peril.

Nunez at least runs and can look threatning, but Jotta this season is like a guy with a hangover and makes me feel we playing with 10 men.

1 normally fit striker who the manager actually wants can easily cover both their minutes which i suppose is a good thing.

i think jota is the better player but he seems broken and if we’re talking about selling one and keeping the other as backup then it’s sell jota. availability being a key asset in a backup but also age.

but that’s ignoring finance and suitability, darwin ‘loses’ on both those fronts, worth more and the manager doesn’t rate him.

i hate the term ‘no brainer’ but it seems like that to let them both move on this summer. you’re not breaking any team chemistry or familiarity right now except for what they might bring to the squad off the field.

finding the right buyers might be tricky for any mere mortal but edwards can apparently sell snow to the eskimos and hughes has just caught fire so there’s a chance

I think if we get a mega offer for Diaz he goes. We all think Cheesy and Nunez are going. Keeping Jota could mean the same as not keeping him, as is likely to get injured or offer nothing as he did this season. What are the options?

Agree about Diaz but it'll have to be a VERY big offer indeed as I don't think he's high on the list for getting rid, nor IMO should he be.

Slot's been publicly complimentary about Chiesa so he's not nailed on to leave either.

Nunez I agree is most likely gone and that's the right decision.

Jota's fitness is too unreliable for him to be first choice, but he's had his moments (scoring the winning goal in the derby for example isn't chickenfeed). I agree with Markeh that availability and age count in back-up players, but so does talent and Jota has that in a big way near goal. I don't think we should let him go for peanuts and I'd sooner keep him as a bench option if we don't get a reasonable offer.
