I presume we're signing him this summer given how hard we pushed for him last year?

Doesn't seem to be on the radar in the news though

Its odd. Freebie this year but zero news coverage about it (that I've seen)

I think our interest has cooled. He's a winger isn't he? Not really what we need so I expect us to buy him from r more than we were prepared to last time.

If it has cooled , it tells you just how the club runs.

We were in shut up and take my money mode not too long ago, now he's free - No interest.

Short term thinking and panic buys is what we're about

Our transfer approach is shocking. I don't know any other club that buys shite, loans it out and spends more shite to replace the shite we've bought and loaned out.

Liverpool close in on free transfer for Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka

Liverpool are set to sign Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka on a free transfer this summer.
Reports from the Daily Star suggest that Brendan Rodgers could finally get the winger that he missed out on 18 months ago, before Dnipro pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute.
The Anfield club are now set to land their target for free, despite interest from a host of other top clubs, including Manchester United, Tottenham, Seville, Monaco and Inter Milan.
Konoplyanka is considered to be one of the best players playing in Ukraine, and he previously admitted that his dream is to play in England.
The 25-year-old said: ‘My goal as a child was to play in England.
‘The leagues are stronger and I still want to try my hand there.”
Konoplyanka has impressed in the Europa League and he would be a great addition to Rodgers’ squad with his attacking ability.
It looks like there will be a lot of comings and goings this summer at Anfield, and to add Konoplyanka to Liverpool’s squad would be a great piece of business considering how much money they were willing to pay for him in the last January transfer window.
It could be that good things come to those who wait.

I posted the same question in a thread somewhere a day or two ago. Really odd that we went through all that shite to try and sign him when he was expensive. Now that he's starring and dragged a shit team to the Europa League final and is free we don't seem to be interested.

You'd have to think we'd likely be better off had we signed him instead of Lallana for half the price.

Why sign Konoplyanka for free when we could pay 40 million for premiership proven Yannick Bolasie?

No, joking aside, perhaps we haven't made a move because Rodgers is being pushed out, and we dont know who his replacement will be and if Konoplyanka will be favoured by the new man.

We could've used him in the second half of last season, given that the incredible Victor Moses was the 3rd option after Coutinho and Sterling in the wide forward / AM areas. After adding Lallana and Markovic in the summer and promoting Ibe though, there's really no room for him anymore unless Sterling is off, Markovic is going on loan, or unless he's really that good that he'll come in and bump someone off his place in the pecking order right away.

Anyway, had we landed him or Salah in January, we arguably wouldn't have gone out to get one of Lallana or Markovic in the summer. The story back then was that we agreed a fee but the owner didn't want to release him - yes, sounds a bit odd, but let's go with this story for now. Don't know what the value was, but I suppose we could use the price Chelsea paid for Salah (11m - 12m) as a ballpark figure.

If we wanted him last season we would be fools not to want him now. If we don't want him now, we were fools last summer (well, we know that already, don't we?)

[article]Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka says he regrets not being able to join Liverpool last January.

The Reds tried to sign Konoplyanka right up until the 2014 winter transfer window closed, but came away empty handed despite lengthy negotiations.

And the Ukraine winger says he would have liked to make the move to Anfield, but hopes his side's upcoming Europa League final against Sevilla will ease the pain.

He told Sportske Novosti: "I am sorry I didn't join Liverpool when they wanted me but this Europa League final will help me get over that!"

Konoplyanka, alongside Nikola Kalinic, Bruno Gama, Douglas and goalkeeper Denys Boyko, has played all 14 of Dnipro's matches in their impressive run to the Warsaw final on May 27.[/article]

A full back with the hands behind back defending style again. I can't imagine it helps the defenders with their balance. Moreno does that, and even Ivanovic does that a lot too. Does my head in.

Get rid of Sterling, buy Konoplyanka and use the Sterling money on Lacazette or Higuain

So how did he do in the Europa League final then and is he shite enough to still be a target for us?

He played very well. Took on and went past defenders numerous times and got crosses in on either foot. Got a couple of right foot shots in while stepping inside from the bye line. Got back and defended when necessary. Worked hard. Dnipro's main outlet as they play counter attack. I haven't seen post match review but I'd think he was one of the better performers on the pitch, probably shaded by Bacca and Banega of Sevilla.

Excellent game by the way, especially first half. Both those teams would monster us,

[article=http://futbolgrad.com/the-chase-for-yevhen-konoplyanka/]But the failed transfer from Dnipro to AS Roma highlights the difficulties of transfers from Ukraine to Western Europe. This was especially highlighted by Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s odyssey from Shakhtar Donetsk to Borussia Dortmund in July 2013.

Konoplyanka’s transfer to Liverpool in the winter of 2013-14 for example was cancelled at the last minute by Dnipro owner Ihor Kolomoyskyi, who refused to sign the transfer documents despite the fact that Konoplyanka had an exit clause in his contract.

Kolomoyskyi also appeared to be instrumental in Konoplyanka’s failed transfer to AS Roma this last winter, as the powerful Dnipro owner wanted to retain Konoplyanka in order to increase Dnipro’s chances in the Ukrainian Premier League, but also in the Europa League. Kolomoyskyi has long dreamed of breaking the stranglehold of the big two, Shakhtar and Dynamo Kyiv, on Ukrainian football.

Futbolgrad has since learned that Kolomoyskyi promised Konoplyanka more money in a new contract if he would stay with Dnipro until the end of the 2014-15 season. In return Kolomyskyi would receive a fee from whoever will sign Konoplyanka this summer. This means that technically Konoplyanka remains a free agent, but that he might not be completely free to negotiate a deal with whichever club he choses.

As I was told by another source, this is a deal typical for Ukrainian football. According to these sources Konoplyanka is indeed a free agent, but parts of his contract are owned by Kolomoyskyi in what could technically be described as a Third-Party Ownership deal. This would explain why members of Dnipro’s front office, such as Rusol, have been vocal about Konoplyanka’s potential next move.[/article]

[article=http://as.com/diarioas/2015/06/18/english/1434633354_226033.html]Sevilla continue negotiating for fêted Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka who they hope will be their marquee signing this summer. The 25-year-old is being tracked by several clubs in central Europe but one of his suitors seems to have fallen out of the race in recent hours, despite the promise of a lucrative contract. Beşiktaş have made three bids for the player, to no avail. Club President Fikret Orman confirmed that Konoplyanka has turned them down in declarations to national broadcaster, TRT: "I have held three meetings with the player and on each occasion, his answer was no. As of the moment, nothing has changed and we have started looking at other players ", Orman said.

Reports from Turkey claim that Galatasaray have joined the race to sign Konoplyanka, and have offered him 2.5 million euros net, per season. But the player seems to have his heart set on moving to the Premier League or at least one of Europe’s major leagues which gives Sevilla a glimmer of hope.[/article]
