Hillsborough was a scene of horror. Supporters were mostly laid on their backs, rather than in the recovery position, some with clothes covering their faces, even though no qualified person had determined they were dead. There were literally piles of bodies at the Leppings Lane end, and bodies left lying around elsewhere. Only 14 of those who died were taken to hospital, a fact Ann Adlington, solicitor for the Hillsborough Family Support Group, describes as "shocking".

In August 2006, Anne Williams, whose 15-year-old son Kevin was killed at Hillsborough, applied to the European court of human rights, arguing that the inquest into her son's death was "insufficient" due to the 3.15 cut-off.

Over years of tireless campaigning, Williams tracked down people who had helped Kevin, including Derek Bruder, an off-duty police officer, and a woman special police constable. They had testified that Kevin had signs of life up to 4pm; Bruder felt a pulse, and the SPC said Kevin had opened his eyes and said "Mum".

Their statements were changed after visits from the West Midlands police, to suggest there were no signs of life. Both have since emphatically stood by their original statements. Bruder has since complained that his evidence "was not presented in its entirety or in a professional manner" at the mini-inquest, to which he was not called to give evidence in person, and he has emphatically maintained he did feel a pulse. The SPC has also stood by her original statement. Williams sought the opinions of three eminent pathologists, who all disagreed with the diagnosis by the consultant, Dr David Slater, who examined Kevin. Dr Iain West, consultant forensic pathologist at London's Guy's hospital, contested Slater's finding, which had been upheld in the high court, that Kevin had died from traumatic asphyxia. That and crush asphyxia were the causes of death ascribed to all who died at Hillsborough. West said he believed Kevin died from severe neck injuries, and could have been saved had he been treated early enough. There may have been other victims who were recoverable, he said, after 3.15.

Under 10,000 needed guys, ask your family members, friends and workmates Anne is so close to getting her answers

Come on lads, if you haven't done this, do it now. Put yourself in her shoes.

Less than 6000 needed now, it's really flying in.

I've tried to sign up for this, for I think the third time, before remembering I can't, as I don't have a UK address.

The lads at drinkies in the King Harry were actually standing about 3 feet away from Anne Williams. I don't think a lot knew that..

96,664 I think she is going to get it, but we want a fair few over the 100k incase of any filled in incorrectly

99k what an hour its been, I bet she was so worried she would miss out, why has it taken so long to get the 100k?

I imagine there might be a good few duplicates in there. People forgetting if they've signed up already.

I forgot and it wouldn't let me do it.

Whoa, I thought this had absolutely no chance.

It needed 50,000 in about 40 hours.

Great.

Anne Williams has thanked everyone, not just Liverpool fans, who signed the e-petition to enable her to get an inquest into her son Kevin's death.

"Thank you everyone, honestly, from the bottom of my heart for signing and supporting me," she said, after the petition reached the target 100,000 signatures.

"It's been 23 years of living with lies and I cannot go away until I get justice for Kevin. I just can't believe it. The way it was going down last night and then came the support.

"It's the last day today and I wasn't sure when they were going to stop the petition, whether it was twelve o'clock this morning or twelve o'clock tonight because it doesn't say - it's been nerve-wracking.

"We got there. I just cannot believe it."

Anne has evidence Kevin was still alive at 4pm and did not die from traumatic asphyxia at the Hillsborough disaster. Original inquests ruled all the victims were dead by 3.15pm.

She now needs the support of MPs for the discussion to go ahead in the House of Commons.

"I have been lied to from the outset and I cannot live with these lies," she said. "If he got a new inquest it would change the cause of death and it's in the interest of justice that he does because I cannot live anymore with the lies.

"Also, this will help all the other 95 families as well. Kevin died at 4 o'clock and he was save-able."

"Hopefully now this e-petition will help me with my submission to the Attorney General.

"I want the Attorney General to look at the evidence again and send Kevin's case back to the divisional court recommending a new inquest into the death of my son."

Amazing response, made up for her. Listened to her very briefly in the Harry whilst she spoke to Kev from ST, it didn't seem likely then but she was determined.

This has massive ramifications for the whole Hillsborough debate, as they will need to be another enquiry with investigations into what happened later than 3.15.

she has a just on 11,000 buffer for incorect votes with 15 minutes to go, so she should easily make it now

Fantastic news.

It looked hopeless but just goes to show it's not over until, well it's over, which it isn't yet.

Onwards and upwards though.
