He's an idiot.

Those are clearly Japanese eyes he's doing there.

This is just as racist as monkey noises. We wouldn't tolerate it with black players (and nor should we), the guy needs to be sacked!

He's at the beginning of an 800k a week contract. They won't even contemplate sacking him and paying that up.

That's €41.6m a year (which is more than Messi and Ronaldo). Besides, clubswon't payout if it's gross misconduct, surely.

It's not quite as racist. There's no scale of racism I'm aware of, but Chinese eyes do look more like that than Western eyes, whereas black people don't talk like monkeys

That money is just fucking stupid. What is the point? Do these clubs recoup this money at all or is it just cause they can?

Yes they do, I have seen it done.
Well I happen to be married to a lady of Chinese/Vietnamese descent and I lived in Japan for a few years. From my experience and from what I'm told - Racism towards caucasians is extremely rare from that part of the world - Xenophobic maybe. Especially among the older generation. More fear than racism. Shame that you had to witness such a thing.

Fear? They're not still going on and on about two atomic bombs being dropped on them are they?
Nah - Especially not in Japan. In the distant past maybe but a more welcoming and hospitable country you couldn't find. I was there for the 2002 World Cup and they were unbelievable! Every town where the games and teams trained adopted them as their own. I lived near Kashiwa where the Croatians were housed and the amount of Nihon-Jins sporting Croatian shirts and mingling with all the gaijin's and generally joining in on the fun was brilliant to behold. Russia for example could learn a lot from those beautiful folk.

Given how few non-Japanese actually live in Japan, and their extraordinarily low levels of immigration, they probably just like the novelty of it all

I reckon Asians are as racist as the rest of us.

Thais are incredibly racist in my experience. And as for eastern European countries. Wow. I was on a stag do in Ljubljana in Slovenia and we had a local student show us around as a guide. She was educated, funny and spoke perfect English. Fast-forward to later in the evening when she'd had a few and she says to me: "Do you have many black people in your country?" I reply: "Yes, plenty of black people and lots of other races/ colours etc". She then said: "We don't like black people here. They smell and they are lazy. We don't want them here."
Cue embarrassment all round from us lot. But none from her.

The Greeks can be racist but mainly out of ignorance more than actual racism. If that makes sense.

Of course, there are some hardcore racists here, especially that shower of bastards Golden Dawn.

Haha - Probably fella. Hence why the only level of negativity I got was one of xenophobia. On reflection though maybe it was because I was bit of a mental drunk at the time . Still all my normal gaijin buddies would say the same. It's to do with the Edo period and their policy of shutting the borders (apparently) 🙂

Wow! That sucks! I can only speak from personal experience. I'm surprised though. I've been to Thailand dozens of times and experienced nothing but good things and smiles. Then again I'm caucasian so what the hell would I know. I wonder what the vibe is in China? @Frogfish

Many years ago (I was first here in1987) there was overt racism (actually in 1987 this was against virtually all foreigners due to communist propaganda) - they actually thought, or wanted to know if, the colour would come off if you touched them (seriously) !

However the younger people of today are far more educated and I have not witnessed overt racism in Shanghai for a long time. As with most forms of racism; music, art and sport are great educators.

It should be borne in mind though that China is a massive country with over 1.5 billion people. You can pick any subject under The Lying Rag and find massively diverse opinion from region to region or city to countryside (where traditional thought on many subjects still rules).

In Shanghai / Beijing being black is probably thought of as 'cool' today amongst young people (many visiting DJs and bands, NBA and football and other sports), however down South in Guangdong province there is a very large (I'm sure I read 40,000) illegal immigrant population (mostly traders, many with Chinese wives & children), I believe the area where the immigrants mostly reside is called Little Africa, so opinion there may differ. Go into the huge area of West China and being black would make you a major curiosity since not many foreigners of any colour reside there.

Cheers for the knowledge man. Much appreciated. In return I can give you my families potato cake recipe or explain the Higgs Boson particle. If we ever met I could teach you how to 'feed the card' when shuffling a deck. All good things but you can only choose one 😉
