Lazar Markovic

I think he's done well. Big part of the revival in form and playing style. Contributing in defence and attack.
He's got pace, great skill, creativity and his passing is spot on.
There is so much natural ability there with a great attitude. He'll be ace.

20 years old, first season and issuses with the language.
Same as Moreno imho. Done well so far and contributed as we could of hoped in a first season for a young player.

There is a lot to come from this lad.

Technically he's very good, I just can't make out what he's meant to be though.

Essentially, he looks like a player who is great late in games off the bench, powering forward with pace. As said though, he seems a bit "kick and run", no genuine skill to take people on, no short range acceleration to get away from people (he looks better when he gets a couple of yards into his run - in space) and his passing can range between safe and occasionally very good, without the ability to carve defense splitting passes, ala Coutinho, Gerrard & Lallana.

Playing him deep was a masterstroke of sorts, his defensive game has improved and he's quite intelligent at it to, but that's not what we bought him for, surely?

Next season is huge for him, he needs to start showing some quality. It will be interesting to see how Ibe does today, as I think he is a genuine threat to Markovics place in the team.

Ibe wasn't really tested defensively but he has shown more in attack than Markovic ever did.

Markovic plays like Babel without the swagger and the shooting ability.

Anybody else see that he got a 4 game ban for being sent off against Basel, 3 for this sending off and an additional 1 for when he was still with Benfica. It looks like it only applies to europa league games though

Seems disproportionate BUT it was such a staggeringly daft thing to do that it's hard to complain overmuch. On the bright side, props to the lad for putting it behind him as well as he has.

It was a really silly sending off, if I remember correctly he had already gone past the player and then swung his arm back……hardly a reckless challenge, others get much less punishment for more more aggression

Its insane that he gets 4 games for that. Ronaldo got 2 for kicking the shite out of someone if I remember correctly.
Ridiculous.

If there's a carryover from something he did while still with Benfica, this is presumably the result of his being seen as a repeat offender.

It's such a little bitch move though.

There's certainly potential with Markovic, a lot, and he's progressed nicely from "why the fuck did we buy him." But he's quite casual positionally, and his productivity in attack isn't enough to offset that at times. It certain could be, his touch is just a little off a lot, takes him a little too long to control.

Needs to work harder, be more diciplined, and above all find some more aggression in his play. He could just as easily end up going the Aquilani route.
