Liverpool Eye Gago Deal

Fernando Gago's agent claims Liverpool would be "a perfect club" for the Real Madrid midfielder to continue his career after being told he is surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Liverpool's director of football Damien Comolli is believed to have already opened talks with Gago's representative, Marcelo Lombilla, regarding a possible move for the defensive midfielder.

Gago, 25, does not feature in Jose Mourinho's plans for the new Primera Liga season and is reportedly keen on a move to Anfield after speaking to former Reds Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa about life on Merseyside.

Lombilla said: "Gago needs to play and Liverpool would be a perfect club for him, Fernando wants to get back on the pitch and return to the top level and at the moment that is not possible in Madrid."

Real are believed to be demanding £15 million for the Argentina international but Liverpool are eager to secure a cut-price £10 million deal after splashing out £16 million on Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson.

There has also been interested from a number of other clubs and a source at Madrid told the Daily Star: "Fernando knows that he has no future at the club. There has been interest in the past from some Italian clubs and Aston Villa, but Liverpool have shown the most interest."

Can't see him coming here to be a squad player, and "if" we are as interested as his agent let's on you'd have to question what the plans for Lucas and Spearing are (Considering we're obviously after Adam too).. Can deffo see Jay leaving, but would Lucas be happy with a (very) bit part role considering his recent improvement?

Simply not true. I like Lucas, he's decent and has improved vastly, but let not forget what he's improved from.

look at the players real have sold in recent years, I don't think being able to get into the real madrid is a good barometer for a player's ability.

Yep. I'd rather Banega. He was linked to Napoli a few times during the week. Perhaps Hamsik is off who was linked to Milan I think.

I've not seen enough of Gago to know either way tbh, I just thought you were measuring Lucas based on his previous form. I agree he can be improved upon btw, but he has got better.

Aye, I probably could've worded it better, and yes, I agree Lucas is yet to reach his full potential, but from what I've seen of both,I think Gago has, and will have more in his locker. That being said, I could be are wrong about the whole thing.

It's not - but whereas the likes of Sneijder and Robben were excellent for Real and got sold because they wanted shiny new players to play with, Gago has never really done much of anything. There's a reason Alonso was such a priority signing for them.

That's true, but then VDV never really got much of a chance for them either. Like I said though, I've not seen much of Gago to have any sort of opinion, just that it's not really a measure of talent (or lack of) to not make it into their team. It usually goes by looks, name and profile.
