News of the World: Liverpool ready to swoop for Spurs winger Aaron Lennon
Saturday, June 25th, 2011
First it was Luka Modric, then Sandro and now Aaron Lennon is the latest Tottenham midfielder to be linked with a move from White Hart Lane.
The News of the World claim “Liverpool are ready to swoop for Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon. Kop chief Kenny Dalglish is a huge admirer of the 24-year-old England star and has the cash at his disposal to tempt Spurs into a sale.”
Now whilst Liverpool do need to strengthen their options on the wings, Stewart Downing is tipped to sign as early as the coming week, a move for Lennon does seem a little unlikely.
Martin Hardy in the Sunday tabloid suggests “Spurs boss Redknapp would prefer to hold on to Lennon, but a bid of about £15million would prove difficult to resist.”
Now far be it from us to ridicule a story written by a world famous tabloid, but 15 million pounds for an England international winger, who is just 24 years of age, is just silly talk. Liverpool would have to stump perhaps 10 million pounds more than that figure and are surely better off spending that sort of money on Valencia’s Juan Mata.
The incentive for Lennon to move to Anfield is asserted by Hardy to the fact that he can triple his wages at Liverpool which simply suggests that this article may well have been planted by the representatives of the Spurs winger to improve his salary at White Hart Lane.
And whilst Lennon was not always first choice in 2010/2011 after a sterling campaign the season before. Is Liverpool currently a step up from Tottenham? Both are very much top four chasers next season.
Ultimately, this may well be a new low in this summer’s transfer stories with a totally unplausible rumour simply designed to sell newspapers and attract website visitors.

Is it frowned upon to post NOTW articles here?
Anyway it's probably bull.
