Good grief, me too. If those figures are correct, it would be very interesting to find out how long we've been ahead of them for.

Ha Chelsea and Arse not a mention * puffs chest out in pride*

Imagine adding some increased stadium revenue to that, increased Far East revenue and with no debt payments !!!

"Chelsea FC will be self-sufficient by 2011" - Peter Kenyon circa 2007.

Hahahaha. Of course they will

It is only retail revenue though. Other clubs may bring in more from sponsorship, advertising and stadium revenues

That money is earned by adidas not us. We get our twenty million a year from them.

It's very interesting though because this is direct income from sales to supporters. So what were United saying about being the best supported team in the world ? *gets calculator out*

It's not just shirts though is it Ross? But even if we sell more we can negotiate a bigger fee from Adidas

Yeah, but still. I thought maybe other clubs in France would make more than Marseille. PSG or Lyon for example.

Me too. I was quite surprised.

This is how we got our higher sponsorship in the last negotiations. The board had this info at the time

Marseille is by miles the most popular club in France. They re selling far more shirts than Lyon or PSG and started their merchandising business many years before the other clubs.

Wonder where we ranked before Ian Ayre was put in charge of the commercial side of the house.

I'm pretty sure retails sales have always been pretty high; though I'm sure even changing sponsors from a beer company to an international bank would have raised sales in many parts of the world..

My Gooner brother in law insisted on visiting JJB before he flew home and bought a shirt that was on sale.

Barcelona.

I swear you couldnt make this shit up.

Really? I didn't know that.

I was a season ticket holder at marseille for 2 years a while back when I lived there.

As lech says - by far the biggest club in France. Their support is consistently amazing and puts ours to shame by an absolute mile.

i'd love to go to a marseille game. I'm definitely going to have to go on a whistle stop tour to some games across europe in the future.

The PSG games equal old firms for me in terms if passion and hatred combined.

They fucking DESPISE each other. I went to one years back and Ronaldinho took the fucking piss in a romp for PSG. Afterwards half a dozen Parisians got stabbed outside.

I don't think away supporters are allowed at either fixture thesedays it's that dangerous.

We're too big a name for retail sales not to have been decentish. Fact remains that for too many years our commercial operation, in this country as well as abroad, plodded when it should have been flying. It's not that we didn't make any money, it's that we could and should have been making a great deal more for a very long time.

As for the brother-in-law, words fail me. But then they tend to do so with regard to mine too.

The top selling footy top in the world last year was Liverpool, Torres, 9. So you know, different figures next year perhaps?
