Liverpool v Arsenal - Match Thread - Carobao Cup Fourth Round

Wilson’s penalty wasn’t bad in fairness - great save from Leno. Unlucky Adrian on the last one.

Give a fuck , Jota should had a couple and we threw the match with a half arsed performance, ultimately for me atleast and seemingly klopp also 3pts against villa always had more weight than the carabao QFs

The most laid back person on earth is Origi. Even when he scored against Barcelona and in the champions league final he just brushed it off as if what is the fuss about.

Wilson, Neco, Minamino, Origi all total wank today

Neco got better as the game progressed - had some nice moment.
Minamino should have scored, and I think the yellow held him back a bit.
I actually think Wilson did pretty well - willing runner, good passer but just needs some belief he 'belongs' on the pitch.
origi - still have NO clue why he doesn't get played in the middle of the park ...

Annoyed. We put out enough first team players Di win.

It’s also a good platform for fringe players.

Not used to getting beaten at home 🙁

The next time we play Arsenal the build up will be “Arteta has Klopp’s number”.

The reality is:

Game 1. Hope not to get battered by a team in second gear and win by 2 stupid mistakes after we won the league.
Game 2. Won on pens
Game 3. Got schooled and lost when it really mattered
Game 4. Won on pens.

Wilson, Neco, Minamino, Origi all total wank today
Not Neco. He done very well indeed. Up against Pepe and Saka and along with Rhys Williams (another one who had a very good game) they kept two highly rated players quiet most of the match. Neco showed some nice control on the ball too.

Agree about the other three. Jota shouldn't have been taken off, he was looking more and more dangerous as the game went on. All that said it was Leno that saved their bacon though.

Neco was poor in the first half, was like a different player in the second half though.

I'm not ready to crucify Origi over a missed pen in the league cup. Yeah he looked nonchalant and I kinda felt that he'd miss it, but in the end that cup is just a nuisance.
The only negative is that Neco, Jones, Tsimikas etc now have one or two less game to play this season because we probably wouldn't have beaten City's second team in the next round.
However, there's still the FA cup and maybe even one or two games in CL depending on how our big guns do against Atalanta and Ajax.

They got Citeh in the next round. Thank fuck we are out. It’s played the midweek before Christmas. I’d rather have a full week off before going into the Christmas schedule.
Wtf. Two games in a week and then none for 7 weeks? Odd scheduling

I think because every other midweek is taken up by league and European competition. Don’t forget shitty international games.

I thought Rhys Williams was the biggest positive of the game – looked very assured, even more so than in the 1st game vs Lincoln, and didn't lose his confidence after Virgil went off. He looks like a leader type CB, which is so sought-after. "Minivan Dijk" is going to stick, hopefully.

Neco – like everyone said, started visibly short on confidence, but gradually improved and was playing well in the 2nd half. This was a test of his character and he came through.

Grujic was much better than against Lincoln, but should have directed at least a couple of his headers on target. C'mon, Hertha Berlin, you won't be able to buy a young midfielder of this quality for £20M in any other year!

Harry Wilson was less noticeable in the 2nd half, but I reiterate that I thought he was one of the best players in the 1st. Good energy, passing and surprising pace. Good deliveries from set plays too; too bad there were no direct free-kick opportunities.

Jones was the opposite – kind of overplayed and seemed out of sync with teammates in the 1st half, but bossed it in the 2nd.

Minamino was the only real disappointment – it seems the early caution really knocked him off his stride and he couldn't find a way to be as aggressive as he liked. Or maybe there was another reason, like Arsenal's extreme crowding of the space in the middle – but this was his first ineffective performance after a string of good ones.

Neco was shite in the first half. Almost looked like he was a schoolboy who didn't yet have full control over his body. But yes - he did have a better second half and made a couple of stops that were of note. It's pretty clear to me however that Neco, Wilson, Grujic, and Origi will never really be more than second string players at Liverpool. If they want to play first team football, they will have to find their way at other clubs unfortunately.

Agreed Rurik - I've been negative about a bunch of the players following the game (don't really like to lose any games) but he stood out for me too.

Watched a few of the Arsenal Fan TV interviews ...
They're such an odd bunch - not once do they basically say, "Leno had to stand on his head to ensure we didn't get a 4/5-1/2 pasting".
I mean, I think we should have scored more goals today than on Monday!

That being said, they're all raving about Gabriel ... was he that good?

One thing I've realised after the game and maybe it's not that big of a surprise, but I'm starting to think that Sadio is our most important player at least in an attacking sense.
Having Salah, Minamino and Jota against Arsenal should have at least produced one goal.
I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that if Mane started instead of Salah, we would have scored.
Am I wrong in saying that Mané's lows are far higher than Salahs?

No, you're right. Its why the Liverpool supporters generally like Mane more. And outsiders like Salah more. We watch every game.
