RT @ImTheBigOJ: Andy Carroll is 6-1 to score first tonight. If you don't understand betting that means if you bet £10, you lose £10.

Glen isnt a winger, he should stay at right back.
Well in an ideal world I would agree. But we dont have any wingers with decent pace able to take on a defender do we?

Jonjo should play for starters
I agree. We need the energy and movement he provides us. Adam out and Jonjo in. Gerrard and Jonjo central with Hendo sitting deeper behind them can work in a 3 man midfield.

He acts more like a winger than any of our wingers do though, especially on the right. It give us added protection and it'll stop him getting raped at right back, like he did again at the weekend, by Petrov, who's hardly the quickest player around.

I've only ever seen Glenjo play once at RM/RW and he was terrible.
Well the options are Kuyt, Downing and Maxi, none of whom are really that natural at playing there and they're all playing pretty dire (Maxi was at the weekend anyway). It'll give us an outlet other than Bellamy aswell.
Gerrard?

Shelvey, Gerrard and Hendo would leave massive holes in the middle of the park. They are all forward thinking midfielders, we would get fucking battered with that 3 in the middle.

Henderson tracks runners, its Gerrard and Adam that don't.

I like that we've spent zillions of tank on midfielders and there's still a debate about sticking Glenjo / Aurelio / anyone we can think of out of defence to plug gaps.

We could have had Meireles and Gerrard in the middle with Aquaman playing in front of them. It would have been "slightly" better....

Not defensively it wouldn't.
At least we would keep the ball for soem periods. And that actually helps defensively too 😛

Oh yes Aqualani. Forgot about him. Anyone know how he's been playing lately?
I dunno but he's play 15 games, so we'll get some dollar if he plays 5 more won't we?

Again, he tracks them, but he doesn't throw in a tackle, thus making the tracking redundant

Shelvey will play where he is told to play and do a good job. He came on as left back at the tail end of last season and gave an accomplished late cameo in that role.

Jonjo could play the DM role better than anyone else while we're struggling there

It isn't irrelevant, tracking them puts pressure on them and stop them waltzing through like they did on Saturday. And he does put in a tackle, just not as often as he might.

Of course its irrelevant. What pressue does it put them under when he stand 6 yards off them? He tracks the run and when they slow down he casually jogs 8 yards before.

He's not defensive minded. At all. Shelvey has at least shown some defensive ability and, most importantly, balls in a challenge.

Hassling the opposition gives you half a chance because they have less time to play the ball or take a shot, or they think, with a player on their heels, that they have less time, it's half the battle. Which is Mystics point re Hendo. It's not just down to throwing a tackle in, it's covering ground, tracking runners and compressing space. Which is exactly what didn't happen against Bolton.

I'm not asking for the lad to go flying into people or do john terry salmon dives, i'm asking him to do the basics.

his tracking back is so superficial

He runs after a player and when he gets close enough to block or anything he decides to slow down and give the other person an extra yard.

The lad cannot defend and has shown me nothing to say that he can.

I took some seasons for Lucas to be a guy with a lot of energy covering acres doing not much more than creating free kicks, until he became a brilliant reader of situations and took a step up. Hendo can probably develop his game more in an atttacking role, but right now him and Jay are two we got to that job, and he is the one avialble. My fear is that we use Carra there, and then we loose more on other areas.
