that was an absolute JOY to watch.
Joy and relief and also fucking frustration: the idea that we've been playing shite, ultradefensive football nearly all season, and yet we had this in us - if only Rafa had chosen the right team... I want to kill him actually.

Lucus could well play because Gerrard has been suspended for the elbow.

Belhadj scores... not as good as his one earlier in the year against us. That was a smashing volley.
How can he be suspended when the ref saw it & had a word. Thought that was it if the ref decided no action?

Jon Champion & Joe Royle are cunts.

Well, there were interchanges between players, SG, Aqua, Torres, Maxi, Johnson and Babel particularly, that we just haven't seen all season. Some of the play was mesmerisingly good.
the chance that gerrard missed with interchanges between himself, babel and aqua was awesome.
Alan Green agrees with you. If the referee says he hasnt seen it the FA can take more action, if he says he saw it and didnt think it was worth more than a free kick they cant ban him.

But the threat of action against the Referee could sway it, no?

Yeah thought so, which he clearly did cos he had a word, were it just a free kick he wouldnt have bothered.

Good stuff. Anyways, even if it's not written in his book yet it will be in a minute when he speaks to Stevie, I bet ya.
Threat of action against the referee?

What?

It will depends if it's mentioned in the Referee's post match report, I guess...

Does 'no action' mean he's 'taken action'?

If no yellow card has been handed out, I thought the FA could do as they pleased.

good performances should be rewarded and poor performances punished but we all know the usual suspects will return at the weekend despite stinking the place out in the last couple of games they played.

No, if the ref has seen it, but made a decision (any decision, yellow, red, fk or no action), then provided he states he saw it the FA cant do shit. Otherwise it simply undermines the ref.

And hats off to Benitez. Not much wrong with the team and tactics tonight. Keep it up.
that's the first time I saw the team sheet in ages and was excited for the game.

I meant I thought Referees were assessed, or is it dependant on what action the ref has taken over the incident?

If the FA can look at video evidence to assess a Referees performance, then surely a referee woukd weigh this up when compiling his match report, in which he'd say whether or not he's seen the incident: ie so the ref is likely to say he didn't see it (as it was so blatant) and then the FA will fuck us over.

Ha. Cue a great end to the season and we're all lulled back into the 'maybe he's learned his lesson' mindset.

I don't think so. Seriously, he can consider himself lucky if he gets out of England alive.

We'll win the league next season....
It's our year, for sure.

I'm in on this thread and the joy (and mockery) it has brought! I was on vacation in Mexico the past week and caught the previous two results on the net and was forced to drown my sorrows in alcohol (which, thankfully, was free, since I was on all-inclusive). Today, sad to be back home, I don't need to drink after the result!!!!!

All you people decrying your streams.

12 midnight on sky 434 The whole match replayed.

You might not feel better all season long.

If someone can get that recorded and linked up online for me to download later, I will be ever so happy.

Hmmm, interesting read. Few points:

KHL wasd the only person on the entire site to get the team right. Everyone else,. including me, guessed wrong. I apologised to KHL shortly after that post for being a touch harsh on his original team selection. Still, I'm mighty suprirsed he went with that team.
I've been the one all season long banging on about:
Speed of ball movement.
Injuries to key players
Us being a better side when we get our better players back
And, let's see how many times from now until the end of the seasoon he plays that team again. How many games could we have left including the UEFA Cup, 15? If that team gets more than 2 outings I'd (again) be hugely surprised.

If Rafa changes the team for the United trip - ask yourself why he's doing that, rather than go mental about "defensive tactics".
We won 4-1 there last year with a centre midfield of Lucas and Mascherano. Be careful what you wish for.
