* Alberto Moreno is going to be a crowd favorite and top top LB for us ... Buzzes up the line non-stop and what a critical tackle, before providing the assist to Mario.

* Coutinho was very wasteful again. Yes Modo, he did create some good chances but he lost the ball continuously in the middle of the park. Too many poor passes.

* Balotelli will struggle to play in a 4-5-1 without someone like Studge to create room for him. That goal meant a lot to him - he even celebrated and he never celebrates. He wants to succeed and his work rate today was very good. Stoked for the lad and hope it's the first of many.

* Disappointed with Lovren ... He just seems to not be at that level he was reaching with Soton ... Lallana was also a bit average.

* Gerrard ... Even without much pressure on him, like Gabby applied this past Saturday, he struggled to dictate the game and just looks clumsy and well below the pace. He's becoming a real problem. One of the best penalty takers in the world ...

* When is Victor Valdes signing for us?

* We were very very lucky to win tonight ... A draw would have been fair.

* GWAN FABIO!!!!

Go back to basics - move the ball faster, not too many touches and hunt in packs rather than headless individuals,

Rubbish display but only 5th game of the season. We're bedding in a lot of new players who are all building their fitness. Thought the fullbacks were our best players. I don't see the Balotelli worked hard evidence though I might be harshly comparing him to the shift Suarez used to put in.

I've made my mind up on Mignolet. He's not good enough and too indecisive.

Moreno was fucking brilliant

Manquillo was a bit shit on Saturday but a lot better tonight. He's growing in confidence

Henderson is a sexier Kuyt

Sterling tried to do too much

need Joe Allen back ASAP

Balotelli did exactly what was needed. Boss goal

We've got a really young team and we'll only improve

They really need to re-learn the power of possession. If you have the ball on the right or left of their area, don't cross unless you really know what you're doing (and often this season we don't) - move the ball around, stay patient and wait for the opening. Coutinho was atrocious, absolutely stupid at times. We got through it and survived, but now they all have to be reminded that the ball is worth keeping.

I remember getting lambasted after the Spurs game for pointing out about a half dozen awful mistakes Lovren made, and being told I had an agenda and whatnot. So I'm feeling a little bit vindicated here.

But I really do hope he sorts out whatever his issues are, which namely looks like he's trying to do it all. Otherwise we look to be in for a repeat of last season, but with less potent options.

Paul Scholes is visibly shrinking whilst I watch the tellybox.

That suit is now several sizes too big for him & his arms seem to be withering away.

One more thing - we miss Sturridge so much. His work off the ball stretching defences and running the lines is immense. In this regard, Remy would have been a good substitute.

We are really just too much potential still.

We really do need another killer Striker.

We are as they say in France STD (sturridge tres dependant)

Random thought up front - I quite like Manquillo. He gets drawn out of position a little too easily but that should be something they can work on. Other than that, there is a lot to like - never stops running, strong, mobile and pretty decent on the ball. Looking like a decent signing so far.

So...this post-Suarez Liverpool is a work in progress, isn't it... I think any ideas that we're going to blitz CL and PL opponents with our relentless pace and swagger need to be reassessed (they did seem a bit naive even before the season started). Injuries to the likes of Sturridge in particular haven't helped but there is a lot of bedding in required here and we'll almost certainly be disappointed by at least one or two of the signings (there is never a 100% success rate, is there).

It was another laboursome performance - not terrible but also nowhere near the level we saw at times last season. Very lucky not to concede before we scored and also fortunate with regards to the pen in the end but whatever, we got the win, which was very important considering the opposition and the fact that we were at Anfield.

Noticed Balotelli celebrating as well. Nice. I think he struggled a little bit... he needs chances creating for him and I guess having had the pleasure of Sturridge and Suarez recently we're more used to seeing forwards create for themselves.

Mingolet... Hmmm....

If Rodgers doesn't realise that this side must play the diamond a lot more often than by now & don't think he ever will.

Every single time we switch to two up top & the diamond we start really playing again.

I still don't know why Clive Tiddley kept calling them Vinaigrette but it only added to the irritations of the evening.

Our pair of full-backs is very exciting. They could be in this side for the next 5 years. That's the first I've felt that about both our fullbacks in a long time.

Sakho and Lovren have some promise as a partnership, but have too many individual mental fuck-ups at this stage. Doesn't help that the keeper behind them is a highly indecisive chap.

Midfield barring Henderson lacks energy and invention. Badly needs an injection of dynamism which ideally should be provided by Coutinho; but when he's playing like he is, he's one of the most unproductive players around.

Lallana and Sterling worked hard - they'll have better days for sure.

Balotelli was pleasing - worked hard, got kicked, didn't complain, and showed up when it mattered. He's not going to be anything like Suarez, but we can't expect him to be. As long as he continues to be a viable alternative to Sturridge, we shouldn't be toothless in attack.

Still a lot of work needed before this team really starts gelling.

And if I were Brendan, I'd be sounding out my transfer team to scout for a top CM for January asap. And send out feelers for the likes of Shaqiri and Isco again.

I was out for most of the evening. I came back, switched Old Faithful on and within 5 minutes Balotelli scored. Fair play to Ludowotsit for still making a fight of it, but they never had a chance with Old Faithful on the case.

Just sayin like. 😎

Any chance we can send you and old faithful to watch the match in @Fabio's seat?

I think Rodgers has a very big problem right now, he's trying to implement this 4-3-3 formation, he bought the players for that, but so far every time we played that we've been wank, and when we've returned to the diamond, we've been good.

I think the main thing to learn here is that you don't change a winning formula, he's trying to and it's obviously not working.

We've played today with Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling all on the pitch at the same time, trying to do the same job, it was stupid and it was no surprise it didn't work.
I think we're not ready for this 4-3-3 and we're not doing it right, the personnal is not right and unfourtunatly, although it seems nice to field tons of creative players it won't work.
we shouldn't start games like that, what we could do is try to switch to it while we're leading games so the players would learn the formation without pressure.

Anyway we we're very lucky to win today.

Can't wait for Allen and Can to return from injury so we can add some more dynamism into the middle. Last season Coutinho looked good when moved to CM but he just tries too hard at the moment and I don't think can cut it there.

Lallana needs to get back up to pace but i'd rather he had his average games here than in the League which is a greater priority for me.

That is an interesting point. The emergence of Sterling as a genuine contender for the no.10 spot is casting doubts over Coutinhos role in the side and Lallana is another likes to roam around and take the lead. You'd like to think that they can all find a way to play together though.

We bought Lovren on the back of six good months in the past 4 years.

We should have gone with the odds.

Still might turn out good, mind, but the portents aren't good so far.

Borini worked well with Mario. He makes up for marios work rate and gives him the space.

Lallana impressive but still looked short of fitness

Coutinho needs to be bollocked. How can someone with that much talent waste possession so much?

Gerrard and Coutinho once again slowed down our play

Moreno is a fucking monster. He owned the left side on his lonesome.

Sakho and lovren need to fucking be less shit

Oh and I was there to full time @Piedro ya tit

Summed it up very nicely.

Gerrard noticeably tiring towards the end though after two tough matches in 4 days and should have been subbed off (Mario would have scored the penalty or we'd have won 1-0).

Give Ludo some credit too, they were extremely pacey, very technically adept (as you'd expect for a Bulgarian team) and the fact they've played 15 games this season showed both in their working and understanding and in their fitness to the last the full 90.

How though? you'd have to be mad to move Sterling aside in order to accommodate someone else, it's like the Gerrard situation in 06' when he was pushed to the right and there was an uproar.

At the moment, Sterling in my opinion owns the No. 10 spot, and considering Rodgers won't be stubborn and we line up with the diamond next match, that means Coutinho and Lallana have one spot to fight for, and it seems they're both terribly off form.

If we line up 4-3-3 again, after seeing how inefficient Lallana and Sterling were on the flanks, I'd be very disappointed in Rodgers.
