Since "silly fouls" and Lucas seems to be the new Carra "hoof" or Dirk "rapist first touch", could you all please do me a favour and list them in here as you see them occur?

This is also the right place for Binny to post tackling, interception, and free kick stats.

There were a few yesterday I think ... If memory serves me well:

1) After losing the ball on a weak pass down the middle, he fouls Young and this creates Manure's first set piece threat on our goal.
2) One also where he fouled Van Persie on the wing
3) Near the end, which gave 'em their last FK

Thanks. For the record: v Man United 31 Sep (1-0)

The one that hurt the most was that penalty he gave away against Wigan in Jan 09 which Mido duly buried.
I knew we were toast in the title race from that game on.
1-1

It's his KPI per match, especially near the 80th min and when we are defending a 1 goal lead. Close your eyes and try to recall that tired half-fuck tackle close to the edge of the box, that's the one.

Oh, my reading comprehension skills must be pretty shit. I thought you asked to list fouls (those are the only ones that stick out), but you wanted to know what the result was? My bad.

No, you read it correctly. I just want to track which game they occurred in.

I think the point is that not ALL fouls are silly, some are the best thing to do in a situation, and if they end up helping you win, then no big deal. For example the Van Persie one, stopping a player like Van Persie running into the box unchallanged would have been a lot worse situation than a free kick from that position. Obviously it'd be best if we won the ball, but given how many tackles he makes, you can't win them all. I'd rather he fouled someone, most of the time, than only making tackles if he's 100% sure on winning the ball cleanly.

I think he's getting back to his best. Constantly picking the ball off the united midfield, first to everything in the 1st half and quick to give the ball to gerrard or coutinho to start an attack. He definitely tires later on when his tendency to clip the back of someones legs becomes more noticeable but he's an important cog in our midfield who allows gerrard to push that bit further forward. He'll never be that player full of tricks, hollywood balls and long range efforts but he keeps the midfield ticking over pretty well, and shields the back 4 quite well at times.

Two of the three I listed - one on Ashley Young was unnecessary and the late one on Cleverly when he's running AWAY from the box (!) was unnecessary two ... I haven't criticized Lucas after the game, nor did I feel the need to. But I answered a question pragmatically. It seems - as usual - that blind spots will be blind spots ... Oh well.

I can never understand how he thinks he's going to tackle someone by running up behind them, shoving them in the back and sticking a foot around their shin. The Brendanator needs to sit him down, show him the DVDs and then punch him in the face,

I actually think Lucas does a great job for us but this made chuckle!

He is improving. He made some terrific interventions yesterday. It's just this tackling that he needs to work on. He's surely capable of learning, he's a bright lad.

Mia, just watch the last 30 minutes of the Villa game, and you will never question those who are questioning the Lucas again.

He went from giving the ball away, to push someone over, to lose possession, to whack someone down, to give away the ball needlessly, to fail to recover lost ground, to give the ball away, to commit a silly free kick, to run straight into someone - probably while kicking him too, to lose possession. It would NOT stop.

Some say he was tired, some say he ate one too many pizza's fact of the matter is, he'd struggle to get into Doncaster's team on that form.

PS I thought he started very brightly against the Mancs, but then once again faded rapidly after the break. Perhaps it's a fitness issue, but an issue it is.

I'm not trying to make a point with this thread... yet.

Let's just keep track of these silly tackles and we can look at them in context at the end of the season.

I don't proclaim that is doesn't happen, I just think there are some posters who will look out for it and do a good job of pointing them out in this thread.

Ryan asked in another thread for people to name better DM's than Lucas in this league. The answers were Flamini and Felliani. I'll remember to have a look at their silly foul count too, for added context.

Along with Aspas and Coutinho, he was one of our worst players yesterday. He gave away at least two needless free-kicks in dangerous positions.

He was also moving and passing as ponderously as his first-three-seasons days.

As for being the best DM in the league, you just have to look at the Fantasy Premiership Draft thread. He was what, the 150th player to be picked in the draft?

There were at least 5-6 DMs taken before him. And that's before the likes of Wanyama, Capoue and Medel have been added to the league.

You may add Delph and Wanyama to the list too. Especially Delph has looked amazing.

He's probably around the 6th - 8th best around in the Prem.

- Lucas Leiva has won 13 tackles so far this season. This is more that any other player in the Premier League.

(thanks binny)

Players with shite positioning need to tackle more often.

So in theory as long as we keep Lucas fit would get 72 points based on last Season's stats.. I expect us to get more this season with a stronger squad. So we should get 4th place

Lucas is v important to this squad, the stats prove that. We all know how @Rosco loves his stats
