You do have a habit of following Ryan alright and clutching at his scraps.

There are/were many opposed to Gerrard as our DM. I'm one of them. I want him to play further forward. Many of us choose to over look it last season as we were playing so well.

I think you insistence on playing Lucas outweighs your actual want for a recognised DM. You tend to support players more so than the team so I find it hard to find sincerity in some of your posts.

Clutching at his grasps?
It's vice versa in many cases.

Modo in arguing with people who agree with him shocker

You're not some Oracle who knows football on a higher plane.

My criticism of Gerrard at DM has been long standing, so clearly I'm the Oracle

My main view was lucas wasnt/isn't good enough, but is an actual DM.

I've advocated Can get a run out in that position.

I think Can would be a more natural box to box player, similar to Yaya, than a true CDM.

However he was playing CB very well a few months back in one of the German international youth matches, so I'm not entirely sure.

I think he's versatile enough to play in a few positions, but he's at an age where he needs to play and play in a consistent position

DM is a long term issue for us.

Either we play him at DM, let him develop and push Gerrard up , or we allow him to play at cm as a long term Gerrard replacement, but drop Gerrard for lucas

My issue with moving Gerrard up is that CM is going to be a more demanding role than CDM, and so on.

If Gerrard is alongside Hendo/Allen in the advanced role, it's going to go terribly as he simply isn't energetic enough.

It can't be much fucking worse than now can it though?

Is he worth 100k+/wk to play 20 minutes off the bench though?

Because if we want to control the game the better sub will be Allen/Can/Lucas/Toure. And if we want to really press and chase the game, there's Lallana/Markovic/Coutinho/Borini.

Because if you remember the last 20 minutes or so of the second Chelsea game last season, where Gerrard was talking stupid long shot after shot trying to singlehandedly bring us back, you understand my concerns about him being the attacking sub we use. I'm not confident in his mentality as a substitute, or his fitness and positional discipline as a first team regular.

You've added a lot of legs to my post man. I said I'd use Gerrard sparingly. As in play him for 70mins (If that's all he can give) in a more advanced role. I don't see the point in bringing his wages into it. Bringing up the Chelsea game is a bit unnecessary also. It was a freak, one off game where we showed naivety as a whole in chasing the game. Gerrard took it upon himself to try long shots (against a team sitting back) to atone for his mistake/slip. I'd rather not revisit that game.

I wouldn't say it was an isolated incident.

There's a reason why he's called Stevie Me by some of the footballing world

Honestly thought we were doing well in pressing Chelsea for a goal until Gerrard decided to go one man army and Aspas came on. The rest of the side was being patient and we created a few half chances.

I could see 70 minutes potentially, but we would be going away from the pressing game. That's more an issue on paper though, as we aren't doing much pressing anyways at the moment.

Wages are probably of least concern here though, I will concede that.

Is he really? I see what they did there. It's like a humourous play on his normal nickname. How clever.

...

You thinking it's a shit insult doesn't change the fact that he's seen by a majority of the country as a selfish player with hero complex

It is a shit insult and I honestly had no idea anybody thought that about him. I've never heard it mentioned in London town. Maybe it's a northern thing.

Yaya also played at CB, in a CL final too if I remember right.

That was against little boys who were half the size of him. There's no way he's a centre back.

Besides, playing anyone at centre back in the current system is merely setting them up for a fall. Our problems are systemic.

I heard it from some Londoners
Huh! A quick google of 'Stevie Me' and it appears in several articles. It seems you are quite correct in that in some quarters he is labelled as selfish and a bit narcissistic. That was honestly news to me. I can kind of see it though. There was an incident last year involving a Sturridge goal that he set up with a beautiful pass but his celebration always stuck me as odd. Like he was saying 'Look at how ace that pass was' instead of saying 'Sturridge! Was an ace finish'...

I can't remember. He ran up to Sturridge, stopped and held his arms wide and waited for Sturridge to hug him. As if saying 'Yeah that's right. You scored that goal because of me'... I'm probably over analysing the body language but at the time I honestly remember thinking that was a bit odd. His pass was very good admittedly.

It more likely stems from his playing style when younger. He always had to be the hero

Nah, the one I'm talking about was a good few years back. I think it was a free kick against Pompey.

Ok found it. It's the one Vs Fulham. This clip doesn't really do the weirdness justice. Here you go though.
