Seeing as LAR is continually diving opinions here, I decided to do a little poll where everyone can declare which side they are on.

It's surely the kind of signing we all want - we want big stars but we also want to see the club scouting young talent and getting it while it's still cheap. He falls into the latter category, but within that category he looks a very shrewd buy.

Ditto

7m isn't cheap, for a player with 7 first team games under his belt.

Unless we're buying a potential superstar - which everyone has been at pains to point out they don't think he will be

It's definitely a punt, but the club has to take bigger risks than other clubs if we're going to get back in the Champions League and after the signings of Coutinho and Sturridge, Rodgers deserves a bit of faith with Luis Alberto.

There's no point analysing a signing we haven't seen until he's playing in a red shirt.

I can't see how anyone can make a call on him after watching a few youtube clips etc. He may be another Coutinho and he may become our bebe. Either way its too early right now.

I don't think we are getting him on the cheap. We're probably paying the going (Prem) rate for potential. If he'd shown Hazard / Aguero esque promise then he'd cost at least double the amount, so the hope is I suspect that he's a bit of a slow burner.

He doesn't need to become a superstar for 7M to end up being cheap.

Needless to say but I disagree.

I don't understand why people want to continually ignore red flags related to signings.
There are no red flags related to a signing that we have scouted (reportedly) extensively.
Zaha has cost united twice as much and never played a top flight game.
Oxlade cost Arsenal 12m from the THIRD tier of English football.
If we have done our jobs (the signings of Coutinho, Borini, Sturridge etc make me think we have) then the league he is currently in is irrelevant and the sceptical amongst us are being over worried.
If we havnt scouted him then its retarded, but i dont see the point in focusing on the league he was playing in, we have identified him and one would assume scouted him extensively and decided he is a star in the making. We have decided that investing 7m now is shrewd as opposed to 20m in a years time.
Its such a risk free signing in that we will recoup 5m back selling him if he doesnt adapt.
I dont really understand the negativity from a bunch of people who havnt seen him play judging him on where he has performed so far given that we have watched him loads as a club and those who have rate him highly.
Ergo-stfu moaning cunts.

Ps-Id much rather pay this (oh actually its not my money) than pay 18m for Benteke or 13m for Lennon or someone else 'top flight' proven.

I really can't understand what these red flags are in relation to the transfer and would agree mostly with what oncy has just posted!

Alberto looks a good piece of business and his performances will back it up. He fits the transfer criteria of young talented players that the owners subscribe to.

Arsenal took a risk with Oxlade and Walcott for a cool 24m pounds. They hadn't played a single game in the top flight, nor were Barca in for them.
I think most sane people would agree they were worth the risk in hindsight.
We're taking a risk with this signing. Not one person is denying it.
For some reason Rosco and co thinks the only possible way to describe the feeling of knowing that risk is by being a miserable cunt, while many others feel we can look at the risk taking as a positive, in that we might have a player that might develop into a very good one in a few years, worth way more than the initial outlay. He might not develop. We understand that. It's a risk. We get that. For fucks sake.

People aren't "ignoring" anything. We know the risk involved, but it's pointless speculating until he's touched a ball. You seem to think that posters saying, "I'll decide when I see him play" is in some way naive, putting faith in managers might be, but you have to indulge a bit and see where it takes you. You can't seriously moan about tossing away money on dead-in-the-water 30 somethings, then on the other hand moan about speculating a little over the odds on potential. You have to take some risks in football, on and off the pitch, it's the nature of the game, and it's not like there are always assured safe bets out there, look at how long some of our recent English contingent have taken to get their act together, something you acknowledge readily.

Have we acted with astuteness when a player has become available at the right price? Yes we have, so I think that lends some faith the way of the gaffa (and whoever else) in terms of trusting their judgement of what might provide a fruitful few years ahead for us. And as Oncy said, he's relatively young enough for us to at least make a fairly decent fee back on, should the worst happen. £7m isn't megabucks in comparison to what we've spent in recent times. It's what United paid for Andy Cole nearly 20 years ago.

Ross confuses me at times.

He seemed to be all four signing the next wave of talent and not looking for a short term fix.
We signed a player we hope can be a major talent for us.
CONFUSED SMILEY.

I am.

There's not much to suggest this lad is a talent

I just look at him as an upgrade on Shelvey, for similar money that we'll probably sell him for. On that basis it looks reasonable. Beyond that I'm underwhelmed but open minded.

How good he is and the risk is totally besides the point. You just don't go around handing 7m to clubs for their reserves.

Zaha, Walcott, Ox, were all important players and so you have to pay millions to make the deal. Luis Alberto was loaned out, and not yet a first team player. Only Ian Ayre could rock up to that kind of negotiation and get raped for 7m. The guy should have cost no more than 2-3m. But what can you do now except hope for the best.

Is Segunda División worse than the Championship?

In that case I guess you're right, but I'm sure Barca B would beat every team in the championship quite comfortably.

Zaha has played in the Championship and cost twice as much. Oxlade came from League One and cost 12 mill.
I'm interested to know where you're going with this.

Yes they probably could. But he wasn't signed from Barca B. Sevilla didn't think he was ready for their first team. Barca B didn't want him. He wanted to leave. What more can you ask for to get a good deal? Yet somehow we get fucked dead.
