Luiz Suarez would be an excellent signing.

I don't know why people want Arjen Robben, he's crocked. If anything Rafa's probably pissed Sniejder off enough already, we should go for him.

Sneijder is about to sign a new contract at Inter...

We really should have tried to get Van Der Vaart.

Huh? Has he just applied for Danish citizenship or something?

Ha.

I was wondering the same about Kaka actually.

Lewis Holtby from Mainz (belongs to Schalke). Not too well known (yet), but surely a star in the making. And he is British.

Somebody from footylatest reads SCM I reckon......................................

Liverpool to make winter move for £9m Everton fan

Liverpool are preparing a move for Mainz star Lewis Holtby in January. The player is yet unsure as to whether to commit to Germany or England having only played at U-21 level thus far.

Holtby has been in top form for the Bundesliga Club this season, culminating in the team sitting pretty at the top of the division with 21 points from seven matches. He would certainly add some flair to Liverpool which is something they have been lacking more some time.

Whilst Holtby is an Everton fan he is open to suggestions with a move to Liverpool not out of the question. Despite Mainz doing particularly well this season, they are very much a selling club and selling the 20 year old in January for around £9m would certainly appeal financially to the club.

The main issue for Liverpool will be who the owners of Anfield are in January, although it is believed that either set of owners would be making cash available for Kop boss Roy Hodgson during that window it is more likely that much more money will be provided should the takeover be completed.

Many feel that the players and manager’s are to blame for Liverpool’s Premiership position and to an extent this is true. Bringing in fresh talent like Holtby will not be a quick fix to the problems but at 20 years old, will be a player that will add quality to Liverpool football club for a long time to come.

I would trust Hodgson with cash.

Okay, so he's shown already that he's not getting the best out of this squad and if no money were forthcoming then we should get rid of him instantly. But he did buy some smart buys at Fulham and he's not known for being a serial waster. Konchesky, Meireles and Cole, I still believe will prove to be decent signings.

I wanted Benitez out because I could not face another disastrous transfer window with him at the helm. I still have faith in Hodgson's buying ability, which is why I would give him until January on the basis that things improve in the immediate future.

He could start with Hangeland although I'm affraid a new, strong, CB isn't that high up the list.

Hangeland & Agger has got the potential however to be a very effective partnership and one I'd probably trust more than any current pairing we can make.

how would you feel about carlton cole coming in?

and what about, as i mentioned in another thread, him buying christian dailly, nathan blake and kevin davies for a combined £17m while at blackburn. i know there are always flops with managers, but honestly, i've got absolutely zero faith in him bringing in the right people.

i'm sorry to say it, but i'd rather he was sacked than him managing to improve results a bit and limping on to january, simply because i just can't see him making it long-term, and i'd prefer to sacrifice a few points now just to get it over with.

Can anyone name some decent signings that Roy has made during his managerial career? He's been in the job for years, so surely there has got to be quite a few?

He's good at buying players that might help a team to the heights of mid table obscurity (which may yet come in handy), but his record for buying players capable of competing at the top level in football is... well... not really great is it.

This is, after all, the man that spunked a rather large sum on Kevin " the (not) new Alan Sheaer" Davies.

If he has money to spend on a striker you can be assured it will be a target man - with Carlton Cole being favourite. Other than that we can probably expect some unheard of Scandanavians who may or may not be any good (takes me back to the Sounness / Evans years) or some stock standard "Premiership battler" from the likes of Fulham, Stoke, Wigan, Wolves, etc... maybe Clint Dempsey or such like.

I actually can't wait... January is oging to be a marvellous month.

I'm not saying he's going to make inspired signings, but I believe he would have less disasters than Rafa had in recent years, and that the players, at the very least, will be suitable for the Premiership.

Anyway, if he lasts until January he's obviously done quite well for himself.

I beg to differ.

So far he's signed:

Konchesky at left-back.
Poulson at defensive midfield.
Meireles for somewhere (presently right wing).
And he's tried to sign Carlton Cole.

Pick the bones out of that lot.

For the little money we had available, Konchesky wasn't a "bad" buy. He will bring stability to our left back spot, and be a good back up for a better younger full back when we have the money.

Meireles is an excellent footballer, shame is that Roy has played him on the right wing. Where he has never played before. Had he just used him in the centre with Gerrard, we would have been much better of. It just proves that Roy didn't buy him if you ask me. He has no idea how to play him. And keeps fielding the slowest player in Europe in the middle.

Poulsen and Jones are two horrible signings.

In other words, don't trust him with money OR tactics.

Why is jones a horrible signing? Cheap player who helped our nationality quota. he's hardly been proved horrible yet

So who bought Meireles then, if not Hodgson?

For those of you clamoring for Robben. Don't you think we have enough injury prone, made of glass, star players?? (Gerrard, Torres)

Yes I'd rather sign the new Robben. Whoever that may be, but id rather sign a 20 year old who is ready for the 1st team and has the potential to be world class.

Its hardly a fair test.

Let's see how roy spends with new owners and a bit of dollar behind him.

in principle both raul m and j.cole are decent signings for most clubs.

I'd be interested in seeing him in the transfer market

From everything that i've read it doesn't sound like our new potential owners are going to be able to spend unlimited funds on new transfers. With that in mind i'd like them to make up theirs minds on who they see as being our long term manager first, and then let that man (whoever it is) spend the money as he see's fit.

For example, I don't see the point in letting Roy make a whole host of buys, only for him to get sacked a short time afterwards.

I think the new owners (assuming everything works out) will be more concerned with his tactics and how he plans to get out of this mess he's helped get us into.

Tbh, I think his purchases havent been too bad with only one certain failure in Poulsen.

Konchesky wasnt too bad and will provide some stability, esecially since our other fullback is better suited anywhere but at fullback.

I like Meireles, and once Hodgson(or anyone else) figures out where to play him I think he'll do well for us, ditto for Cole.
